"The right Pencil",
By Harmonius Terminus (EUSA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pentel Pro/Am Mechanical Pencil, 0.50 mm, Black Barrel (P225A) (Office Product)
This is the only mechanical pencil with a triple AAA in all the categories for perfect writing pencil. If you are looking for a compact mechanical pencil for writing - you have found it. Note that this Pentel's model is not designed for the technical, straight edge drafting. For that you can get the P205, which, as oposed to this model is quite uncomfortable to hold and write with.
Length and diameter, idealy proportioned (if you are not bearhanded). The grip grooves are right above the led holder cone making it ideal for the long writings or accurate drawing and detail sketching. The pencil case, although plastic, as all the P2** Pentel series, is light, but of steel like durability and hardness. The led sleeve is made of very good steel (Believe me on this one. I dropped it nose down at least 1/2 dozen times ... and I worked on the oil platform!). As simple as it gets and as good as it gets. I have used the German 'Rotring TIKKY Special' for years. Unfortunately Sanford bought them out and discontinued this brilliant product and started massproducing new line of pencils in the 'junior-high' style. Now this Pentel model is the only one that resembles it - still on the market.

ok so maybe it's a little weird to write reviews for a mechanical pencil, but write what you know--right?
Anyways... the pentel pro/am is as good as it gets without spending somewhat more serious money. It's light, thin, handles well, has just the right kind of skinny eraser, and when it's working, the mechanism is precise and finely incremented. It's also a good looking piece of equipment--the japanese don't do design like this anymore. On the downside they do have a tendency to jam more than the newer designs... it's usually a simple fix but still a pain--such is the price you pay.

A good mechanical pencil.,
By Walter Reade (Appleton, WI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pentel Pro/Am Mechanical Pencil, 0.50 mm, Black Barrel (P225A) (Office Product)
This pencil has a very light feel in the hand and is thinner than a lot of mechanical pencils on the market. The smooth body rests comfortably in the crook of the hand where between the thumb and the first finger joint. Light grooves near the point of the pencil give enough grip for the fingers without being so pronounced as to cause discomfort after extended use. The lead feeds well by clicking down the cap at the top of the pencil. This same metal cap can be removed to expose an eraser. The eraser is narrow but rather long, so should give plenty of use. The clip is sturdy and does not pop off easily.
