5.0 out of 5 stars Best mechanical pencil out there, February 5, 2005

If you're tired of cheap mechanical pencils that break, lead that breaks, erasers that are wimpy, hard to adjust or replace, etc., then look no further. I am a science teacher who uses these pencils every day. This model is a perfect design. It has a strong metal tip that's threaded on. The eraser is the thick, white vinyl type that never smears or dries out, and it retracts/extends by a simple twist of the barrel. Eraser replacement couldn't be easier - the bulb end just pops in and out. You can store 6-8 leads in the barrel. I like the .9mm lead that rarely breaks, but it's available in .5mm and .7mm also. I've been using this model EVERY DAY for two years!

5.0 out of 5 stars you won't go back, April 30, 2008
It's kind of embarrassing to write an encomium to a pencil, but it deserves it.

I started using Pentel twist-erase pencils about 5 years ago, and now I can't use anything else. They're of course more expensive than the cheap disposable mechanical pencils and other non-disposibles, but the sturdy, heavy design, the thicker leads (up to .9 mm!), the confortable grip, and the ample, high-quality eraser makes it well worth the money. Every semester when I grade stacks of papers and exams, I'm thankful I'm not using some bargain pencil. You wouldn't walk around in uncomfortable, cheap walking shoes, so why would you spend a big part of your working day using a cheap pencil?

A previous reviewer seems to have been harmed by one of these pencils, so perhaps I can't blame a stabbing victim from giving only one star. But for everyone else: use it, enjoy it, don't point it at your body, and you will love it.
