5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent array!!! April 20, 2004
Format:Audio CD
When People are People first came out in 1984, it was just a compilation of a few earlier songs on previous albums, several b-sides from earlier singles, and two new songs. It is an excellent CD that is wonderfully put together. The songs all flow into eachother naturally. Each song is terrific:
1. People Are People - When this originally came out, this was a new single (since "Some Great Reward" wouldn't be released for a couple of months). It is the title song and one of the bands better known.
2. Now This Is Fun - Originally a B-side, this song is exactly what the name says, it is a fun song. The rhythm and beat are extremely catchy. This is one of my favorite songs on the CD.
3. Love In Itself - Originally a single off of the "Construction Time Again" album, this song fits in with the compilation that DM put together here.
4. Work Hard - Originally the B-side for "Everything Counts", this is an excellent song with a beat that is very punkish. This song can pump you up and you find it stuck in your head for days.
5. Told You So - Another song straight off the "Construction Time Again" album, this is a wonderful follow-up to "Work Hard", having a very strong beat and punkish sound.
6. Get The Balance Right - The second new song released on this record. It was a new single that was supposed to help sell the album. It is a wonderfully gloomy song that I would consider my favorite song on the CD.
7. Leave in Silence - The oldest song on the record, it was originally released on "A Broken Frame" and as a single. It's softer approach is a great transition between "Get the Balance Right" and "Pipeline".

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a great album March 26, 2002
Format:Audio CD
Great album from Depeche Mode! This features some of their great pop songs that everybody knows(People are People, Get the Balance Right, Everything Counts) but it also has some more interesting stuff such as Pipeline(contrary to what some other reviewers are saying). You can see where some of the industrial bands of today got ideas. If you only have Music for the Masses or Violator you might not like this album, but for true technopop fans and Mode fans, this is an album to have.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Now This Is Fun". May 1, 2005
By H3@+h
Format:Audio CD
This is actually an early 80's collection, that I'm suprised is still in print. I have it on both vinyl and cassette, and still play it often. The bigger tracks here are "Get The Balance Right", "Everything Counts", and of course "People Are People". But to be honest, I like "Now This Is Fun" and "Love In Itself" just as much. As I said, this is still a great album, but at this point you may just want "Singles 81>85", as it's longer and includes much of what's here. Also, nothing beats live Mode, "101".

5.0 out of 5 stars When Depeche Mode was fun September 23, 2003
Format:Audio CD
This is my favorite of all their albums. I bought this tape 15, 18 years ago. It's lively with great synthesizer work. Great songs like Get the Balance right, and Everything Counts, makes you think but not too hard. This is a fun album. I guess after this one things start to get dark for them which is evident in their later albums.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not a real album November 11, 1998
Format:Audio CD
Four songs from "Construction Time Again," one from "A Broken Frame," one from "Some Great Reward," with only three new songs...not bad. This CD is more like a Promo for Depeche Mode music. Something to convince club owners to play their music. "Everything Counts," "Love In Itself," "People Are People," "Now This is Fun," and "Leave In Silence" are the best ones. "Pipeline" is a little...stupid. "Told You So" isn't too bad, and "Work Hard" is interesting. "Get The Balance Right" is pretty good too. Overall, maybe not worth the money, but its something to dance to, and it some of Depeche Mode's better songs anyway. Besides...it's Depeche Mode...how can you go wrong?

5.0 out of 5 stars People are People November 2, 2006
Format:Audio CD
Depeche Mode's CD/album(and other ones as well) "People are People", is very mesmerizing and ahead of its time. Ive followed their music for about fifteen years. They still sound just as good today, even though Im in a new chapter in life. These musicians are incredibly gifted with a sound very much their own. I would encourage anyone who is not familiar with "Depeche Mode", to take a risk and listen. You will experiance a good sound that resonates more than you can imagine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not so bad as it seems... December 20, 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
PAP are not so bad as a lot of reviews say they are. This is overall not a bad album to start with... in fact I've sampled all the songs and I'm beginning to wish I had the album. Although some songs such as "Pipeline" can be pretty annoying, you can always change the tracks. Although "Work Hard" is known to be one of the most annoying songs on the album, I kind of liked it... this album makes me laugh and really, the annoyance is the fun in it. But what you really need to do is put yourself in another pair of shoes (not literally) to really enjoy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give it a chance! June 7, 2001
Format:Audio CD
All relevancy issues aside, this is a pretty strong album. I know you can find most of the songs on other CDs but this is, without that in mind, a nice collection of some pretty good songs. Personally, I love the album's title track "People are People" (who doesn't? It's classic DM), "Now this is fun" and "Told you so". Work hard is insane, what were they thinking when they recorded it? I only listen to "Pipeline" for a little while and then I get tired of it, but I like the metallic dragging and pig-ish noises in the beginning. Other than those two this CD is classic pre-love tragedy (I have a theory on Martin's subject matter, ever notice how a lot of the songs seem to be about a relationship with a girl that could be really great except that the girl hesitates because of her own insecurities? I noticed because I'm in the same situation-he's taking the words out of my mouth here) DM. It's not as good as Violator or the newer album Exciter (which you should buy first because it'll keep DM on the radio) but it can still hold its own.
