Having been a fan of the prior band before The Swimmers (One Star Hotel; Check them out!) and having picked up the first Swimmers album, i knew i had to give this one a shot. I must admit, initially i was thrown off as this album does have some dancey sort of grooves to it. After spinning a week and letting the album soak in however it has shown itself to be an album full of very solid pop music. On this album, you can see the Swimmers broadening their stroke as it were.

Here is the formula the Swimmers are using on People Are Soft: use four solid musicians to play cool arrangements of smart songs. The Swimmers prove over and over that you can sound new and fresh while creating catchy, urgent music you can dance to. Sounding both direct and mysterious, both controlled and exuberant, People Are Soft will remind you of music from great bands of the past while also reminding you of the originality and wit you liked about music in the first place. Great stuff.
