HoJo steps up another level!,
By Justin Utley (Murray, Utah USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: People (Audio CD)
When "Live Acoutsic America" was released, I was amazed that this viable artist I had heard growing up was so talented that he had taken the energy from the keyboard and put it to piano. I thought it impossible to out do that album. Now, with "People", we get a fresh, new sound and we are taken on yet another ride into HoJo's better place.. with a rich, full sound of a band. I attended his concert and was thoroughly impressed, not just with the new material, but that he had transformed his previous hits into new versions, all of which were incredible. I give 5 Stars for taking a wonderful chance at a different sound, and for sticking with an overall positive and complete, balanced sound and image that one could only expect from Howard Jones.

People Has Its Say,
By A Customer

This is Howard Jones' finest hour without doubt! I have enjoyed every single album that Howard's released but this one just seems that bit different - there are definitely no songs like Automaton on here!!! I would agree with a previous reviewer in that "Not One Of The Lonely Tonight" is just such a gorgeous song, as is "You're the Buddah", "Sleep My Angel" and "If You Love". But that doesn't exempt all the other songs as they are all very impressive. The lyrics, as well as the music, are mature but not in the "In The Running" sense; this music comes from deeper within and is far more accessible.I love putting the album on 'cause people often say, "Who's that? That sounds really good," and then I tell them and they say, "What? That's not Howard Jones, no way!" Yep! Welcome to the nineties...

The music and lyrical content of this album is award winning. Howard Jones has not only written songs about love, faith and hope, he leads the music industry today by setting a master example of how an artist with talent and a passion for his work his fans and his family can accomplish greatness. Each song pulls at your soul establishing powerful relationships of reflection and living. "Let the people have their say" "Tommorrow is now" and "Not one of the lonely tonight" are increadible contributions to musics legacy. People is worth every penny.

Can this man do any wrong?,
By Jim PKP "jim pkp" (Ireland) - See all my reviews

Howard Jones's latest studio album, People, originated as a limited-release CD Angels and Lovers (1997). People takes most of those tracks and includes three new songs, including the two singles Tomorrow is Now and Let the People Have their Say. However, People is far more than a simple rehashing of old material. Rather, it is the culmination of an almost five year project and musical journey for Howard. Tinged throughout with touches of Howard's Buddhist philosophy and practice, every song on People simply oozes positivity. The title of the CD, and its cover - featuring mug shots of Howard's friends, family, and fans - reveals instantly what this CD is about - overwhelmingly, it is about people, relationships, and the emotions that human interaction can create. In many of the songs, simple but beautiful harmonies create an aural image of these concepts. Highlights include the new single Let the People Have their Say; If You Love, a reflection on the nature of human relationships; and the heartfelt, soaring and beautiful Not One of the Lonely Tonight. From the upbeat You're the Buddha to the simple and moving lullaby Sleep my Angel, Howard has created a stunning set of songs that grow and grow, as they also reveal how his musical and personal outlook have developed since the release of Human's Lib in 1983. Howard is probably still thought of as a techno-wizard and no more by the majority of the public, but these songs, by stripping away the layers and revealing the simple yet truly affecting songs underneath, show the true genius of one of the most underrated artists in Britain today.

People - Howard Jones has matured,
By A Customer
This review is from: People (Audio CD)
This album, awaited for five years by followers of Howard Jones, is the maturity of that many years work. Howard has moved on from his trademark synthesisers to produce a surprisingly high quality collection of cultured and meaningful songs. As usual Jones shows his wide ranging talent by covering a wide range of styles, but without losing direction. This is definitely the thinking person's pop - it's uplifting and positive, and has real class. In an age where marketeers are trying to cash in on 80's nostalgia, Howard Jones has moved on and deserves a second bite of the cherry. This album proves that marketing doesn't make good music - true musicians do. My personal favourite track: "Not One Of The Lonely Tonight"

This is truly a fantastic CD! Howard's music always keeps up with the changing times. It's got something for everyone. The slow love songs, the danceable songs, and even some reggae rhythms from Stewart Copeland on 'Everything'. 'Let the People have their say' is truly uplifting. Way to go Howard! I look forward to much more music from you in the future!

Howard Jones Returns with a Perfect Pop Album,
By Nick Taylor (nick@gogstar.com) (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: People (Audio CD)
Howard Jones new album has all the right ingredients that make a great pop record, a nice mix of muscial styles and well written catchy songs that linger in your mind. Check out the acoustic guitar pop song "Tomorrow is Now" which was co-written with Jane Wielden formerly of the Go-Go's, a perfect song for summer. "Everything" is a reggae groove song and features Stewart Copeland on drums. Of course Howard always writes beautiful ballads as in the songs "If You Love" and "Sleep My Angel." Howard seems to be the eternal optimist, his lyrics always have a positive uplifting message, such as in the songs "We Make the Weather" and "Let Me Be The First To Know." Howard has been evolving with each album and this one is a fine turn, showing he is an artist not to be missed. "People" is one fine pop album for the people.

The sound of relax and wellness: stay well with Howie,
By A Customer
This review is from: People (Audio CD)
As a fan since years and years, I should have some prejudice listening to the songs of my favourite singer. Anyway, everytime I buy a new Album of HoJo it's always a surprise. The styles are always different: the first album was played by the King of electronics keyboard, the second was different, with some more ballad and curious song. Just one hit: "No one is to blame". He made then an Acoustic tour and now we have his last creation: a superbe collection of relaxing music. Lyrics and music themes give you an interior benefit, where you really can close your eyes and guess to be in another place. Howie extend his capability in composition and creativity from the classic romantic and slow song until the pop-disco music, which pushes your body to move to the rhythm you're listening to. Well, if you come one time in Switzerland and see one singing songs of Howie and dancing, sitted in his car, well, that one is me. Buy the record, it's a must. It's worth to be listened and played and played and played.....

Excellent effort but a bit mellower than expected.,

A group of us were lucky to see HoJo during the Big Rewind tour when it landed at Jones Beach in NY. His performance [of four of the new tunes from "People" generously mixed with "bullseye" rearrangements of his hits] stole the show! We picked up this album at the show and listened the whole way home. "Let The People Have Their Say" should be the anthem for the new millenium! It ranks up there with the best he has ever written. "Sleep My Angel" is my new lullaby for my own daughter (who, at 6 yrs. old is already a huge HoJo fan!). "You're The Buddah" is another great one. I only wish that there were more upbeat tunes on the cd.
