5.0 out of 5 stars trip, hop, and jazz hands
This is a really nice cd. It has great variety-- likely to please all different types of people. great tripped out echoing drums and buzzing, fluctuating organs that melt my insides. It's funky, raw, and so smooth. Nice different styles tossed around with songs like 9'0clock or 10'oclock or something which is a straight jazzy jam. I agree with the guy below that kc...

3.0 out of 5 stars great chill out music but lacking in dynamic
This is an interesting recording which uses traditional jazz instruments that have been 'electrified' to produce some fantastic drum and bass. However the music lacks in emotion and dynamic as well as group cohesion. The tunes are a little repetitive. However it is still an interesting and from a minimalist perspective successful experiment.

I agree with the guy below that kc doppler is incredible. I love the drumming by gershoni, touching. If you like funky bass, heavy rotation throws it in your face. This is real hot trip-jazz. hip-hop fans should like it for the rawness, jazz fans will apreciate the solo's and sophistication, and junkies will like the trip. Where do these guys play live? If anyone knows, get back to me. Try out Greyboy-West Coast Boogaloo, its another one of my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD, November 16, 1998

This is an incredible CD which is recorded by LIVE MUSICIANS! Most of the tracks feature the Juno bass, an incredible low-toned instrument. The keyboards are laid back and smooth and the sax adds a sophisticated touch. The drums are funky and range from straight ahead hip-hop to super funky off-time. Every song on this CD is great and you will definitely enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars KC Doppler is enough for all five, June 3, 2000

This is a very versatile album-- it's appropriate for downtempo dancing and as background music to fit a variety of moods. The highlight, in my opinion is track 5, "KC Dopppler". It's a seamless blend of acoustic and electronic instruments that is always a crowd-pleaser. I have played this album for all types of people and every one has loved it. Buy one for yourself and one for a friend. They'll thank you for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars why has this been missed ?, February 13, 2004

Seems to me that this disc has been missed by almost everybody. Hardly any fillers. Many of these tracks could easily be put on a "chill" compilation which seem to be all the rage at the moment. Lots of the tracks here are at least as good if not better than many I've heard on the more hyped collections.
Almost all instruments played by humans, good grooves, an undiscovered gem.
Hope these guys haven't given up and can find some more material for mature tastes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, January 10, 2001

I have not yet heard the entire CD but do like what i've heard so far. It's a bit more modern sounding than their "Rhode Trip" (may he rest in peace) CD, but yet, at the same time seems to be heavily influenced by "SpaceJazz" or "AcidJazz" (don't really care for labels but it might be helpful to some) pioneer Lonnie Liston Smith and the Cosmic Echoes. This area is somewhat new to me since i have been more traditionally "Fusion" oriented and hadn't cared too much for the little Acid Jazz that i had heard. But if this is where Acid Jazz is at or is going, i am definitely going to be paying attention! Another contemporary group you might want to check out (although they are not really Acid but just a very soulful and R&B influenced Jazz band) is The Brad Upton Quintet. Especially their Black Orchid CD.

Very cool piece of music. Ambient grooves with real drums. This is a trippy, drippy disc with great feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love at first song!, June 19, 2009
This review is from: People Places & Things (Audio CD)
This Cd is a great collection of experimental, acid jazz, and funky grooves. The first song Polestar is an entrancing beginning to this funky chill groove adventure. With sexy heavy bass the tracks that follow are jazzy and yet relaxing. This CD is for music lovers people who love the essence of music and the instruments and sound. Slide Five will take you on a trip to a land where jazz is transformed into sultry, sexy, dirty beats that make you feel every emotion.

it would be nearly impossible to top slide five's first release, rhode trip, and while people, places & things is a great release, it just doesn't have the same magic. since rhode trip, slide five updated their once retro urban jazz sound to a more futuristic stew. unfortunately, what got lost in the transformation was the soul groove. people, places & things is still funky, but there's a warmth that is missing. regardless, people, places & things is a nice mix of electronic music rooted in space jazz. it utilizes typical jazz instruments like acoustic bass, real drums, electric guitar and saxophone. the sounds from these instruments are tweaked, distorted, looped, echoed, amplified and enveloped to give the songs an electronic d&b feel. the cd includes the previously unreleased ep flash.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth grooves, trip-hop tones, August 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: People Places & Things (Audio CD)
It took me a few listenings before I began to appreciate this disc. At first it seemed a little on the repetitious side and sounded a bit like space/groove elevator music. But after three or four times the laid-back grooves started to feel right to me.

This is one of those discs you put on when you're in the mood to chill-out but not drift-off. I was most impressed with the bass and percussion production, although don't expect a bunch of boring drum/bass dub tracks. These pieces are thoughtfully arranged, and not just thrown together.

The only "down side" to me was that it seemed a little over-produced. I've never seen this group live so it's a little hard to tell how much of the finished product was due to creative engineering or digitized performances and how much is raw musicianship.

Either way, the subtle jazziness of the disc and the overall laid-back feel makes it an easy disc to play day or night.
