5.0 out of 5 stars Epic
I got Art Damage before I got this cd... and that's not the order in which you should listen to Fear Before. This is much more tame... but that doesn't take away from the heaviness. The guitarist screams and sings a lot more on this album... and I really enjoy his contribution. Do not listen to the people that say this band is not talented. I think all of these musicians...

I think all of these musicians are very talented and very creative/experimental with their instruments. What really blew my mind about this album was the lyrics. They are truley poetic. This is going to be hard for some people to get into... just because it is very experimental and different. Awesome live show too. I recommend you buy this album... then Art Damage.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums., October 4, 2005
This review is from: Odd How People Shake (Audio CD)
This album is fantastic. I really can't get enough of it. It's really fun to listen to. It's hard to describe it other than saying it is amazing. Good for people who like the Blood Brother, The Number 12 Looks Like You, Horse the Band, Circle Takes the Square, etc.

Fear Before is love.

5.0 out of 5 stars what can I say. . ., January 28, 2006
This review is from: Odd How People Shake (Audio CD)
It's one my favorite albums. To be honest, I don't think people like "Sweet Cheeks" or "Darth Rahl" have actually listened to the whole thing because their description of the music is about as accurate as a deaf, mute, autistic describing Moonlight Sonata. Now, don't think I'm saying that fear before is as creative/artistic as Beethoven, it's just an analogy.

If you like Circle Takes The Square or any other type of "punk/indie/thrash" type stuff then definately give these guys a listen.

And as far as In Flames goes (which used to be my favorite band), their last 3 albums sound closer to "sweet cheeks'" description than fear before does any day (the downtuned uninspired crap).

This is my favorite album right now, its just so unique and perfectly balanced. it took me alittle while to get into, but now that i understand what the albums all about i cant stop listening to it. FBTMOFs latest album, art damage, is alot more heavy and hardcore i think, its pretty much all screaming. dont get me wrong, i love that album too, but odd how people shake is a better album to start with if your new to FBTMOF, theres more singing and its more mellow. my favorite songs are on the brightside, she could choke, motelroom. grandpiano., and given to dreams. BUY THIS NOW!

HOLY EFFING CRAP!!! This is an excellent cd. I love FBTMOF because every cd is different. Therefore, it's hard to pick a favorite because each cd has it's own personality. But I would say this is the best place to start out if you've never heard FBTMOF before. Highly recommended.

Fear Before The March Of Flames-Odd How People Shake *****

Feriously nasty guitar licks, scorching vocals and growls form mars, and thats only the opening track. Indie, Hardcore, whatever, you cant really classify a band like Fear Before The March Of Flames who in my opinion are one of the most innovative and original bands of their time or any other for that matter. The use of background vocals are amazing and that alone shows the advanced musical knowledge of the group. Coming out of Denver, Colorado a place I live in where the music scene is really less then amazing this guys really are a diamond in the ruff.

The balance of screaming and singing is perfect. Not one out weighs the other which is a very good thing. Sometimes in fact most of the time screaming can grow old and annoying but not with Fear, they are just amazing. The experimental rythyms and guitar parts are very unique and interesting they never get boring especially on this album. Without a doubt the bands best so far.

The bands use of breakdowns is the best I've seen, they are the only band I have heard latly that knows how to use one properly. They don't use them in every song and when they do they fit perfect and flow nicley unlike bands like Norma Jean and The Bled who sometimes seem awkward and out of place and ruin songs.

Fear Before The March Of Flames is deffinatly a band to check out. Odd How People Shake is their best album by far and a very good place to start to get into them. I recommend this to anyone looking for something different in their music instead of the same old thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful music, February 15, 2006
This review is from: Odd How People Shake (Audio CD)
This is one of the more heavier CDs that I own, but I bought it after hearing the song "On the Brightside She Could Choke" off of a warped tour CD. I really liked the bands sound and their powerful vocals that change in sound with the music so I went out and bought the CD. It is a very good CD, the only reason it gets 4 stars is because it is too short, but a lot of CDs from bands like this are short so I wasnt too surprised. iF you like "screamo" bands I suggest you buy this, you wont be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars The first release from an amazing hardcore outfit., July 23, 2005

Fear Before the March of Flames do not sound like what you or I'd expect from Colorado. The first outing, "Odd How People Shake," sounds like a collaboration of bands that only Fear could make possible. These bands would be Converge, Everytimeidie, and Thursday. The latest release "Art Damage" disposes of the latter of those three. Just picture Everytimeidie-style riffing (spidery riffs that are often off-timed), Converge-style screaming (although having both the singer and guitar scream offers more variety then most screamo bands), and Thursday singing (high pitched). Don't mistake my words though. This band definitely holds their own. The opener seems like a precedent for what's in store for the rest of the short running time (around 30 minutes). However, the end of the second song "Go Wash Your Mouth I Don't Know Where It's Been" shows the band on a lighter side, with is riff that is somewhat similar to "Dispostion" on Tool's Lateralus. The hardcore riffing and abrupt changes in structure is ended with a long-lasting piano number. If you have the attention span, you might actually find the ending......pretty?? definitely worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of The Best Albums I've Ever Heard, April 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Odd How People Shake (Audio CD)
Od How People Shake is an album title I will not forget for years to come. Why is that? Well, the music is incredible, the lyrics are original and well written, and the band knows how to act as one. I downloaded this album a couple years back on my Zune. I had heard of this band, but never listened to them myself. I downloaded it just because I needed new music to listen. The first listen through, I didn't really enjoy it. But, knowing some music takes time, I listened to it over and over again. Eventually, I got a good feel for it, and started learning the lyrics, and falling in love with some of their lines. One of the things about this album that makes it so good, is how the instruments come together really nice. 6 months later, when I listened to this album, I would hear things I never noticed before. There are parts in the songs in which every single instrument, drums, bass, both guitars, singer, and deep vocalist (also "screamer" to some) all are playing/singing/screaming different rythms, not even close to each other, but sounds incredible. Everytime I hear one of those parts, I get goosebumps knowing how hard that would be to pull off. Bottom line. Buy this album. I have downloaded this album 2 times, and bought the CD off here. All 3 purchases were well worth the money. I recommend this CD to anyone who loves music. Get this album now!
