PEOPLE OF THE STURGEON: WISCONSIN'S LOVE AFFAIR WITH AN ANCIENT FISH adds photos by Bob Rashid and celebrates the sturgeon fish, on the brink of extinction throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The narrowed focus on the surviving sturgeon of Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin might initially seem to hold a narrow focus for Wisconsin residents, but actually reaches far beyond to promise insights on fishing, ecology, and conservation success. Any lending library strong in these areas needs PEOPLE OF THE STURGEON in their collection.

An outstanding book. The lead author is a science writer by trade,
who combines superb research and first-hand subject knowledge with her
co-authors' contributions into a wonderful book. Great photography,
new and reproduced. There are high-quality graphics and other
material throughout.

I have a signed copy of this book...by all the people involved in its creation. I also have a not-so-secret secret...the author is my talented daughter-in-law, Kathy Schimtt Kline...mother of our first grandson, Oskar. When she presented us with the book, I didn't know much about sturgeon. Her's was a labor of love for the people of Wisconsin and for the lands and lakes, and it comes through in her writing and the wonderful photography. Kathy and our son took a turn at camping along the shores of the area where sturgeon spawn to protect them from those who might try to poach them when the sturgeon are most vulnerable. They attended the Indian feasts where sturgeon are a part of ancient Indian culture. I was so pleased to see that Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Professor of Environmental Law said this book is an environmental tale with a happy ending and encouraged every sportsman and student of the environment to own it. This is Kathy's first book. With her writing talent and ability to feel so passionate about her subject, I am looking forward to her next book.
