Khaleel cranks out unique tunes for all,
By "rhonnie2" (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: People Watching (Audio CD)
I first Saw Khaleel as the opening act for Shawn Mullins a couple of years ago. They keyboard player even gave a private concert for a few freinds and I, which was cool, and put us on the guest list for the next night's concert so we could get in free.Aside from enticing us with freebies and private concerts, they consumed us with their music. A unique blend of many styles including rock and calypso, Khaleel has carved their very own nitch in the music world. And their music has a meaning, whether they are singing of the monstrosities mankind has committed against mother nature, or the waste of human life lost to senseless violence and preventable disease, or the sadness of watching your children grow up and feeling as though you have not been there enough for them. I often play this album at the coffeehouse where I work, and everyone who hears it is intrigued by it. Khaleel has done what seems nearly impossible these days; creating music that is truly for the masses.

Good gracius, what a CD.,

I want to start this review by telling about my trip to Los Angeles last summer. It was a great pleasure for me, beacause my cousin Heming Borthne playes on the record, and is a good friend of Bronx Style Bob. Anyway, I met Bob when I was in L.A, and he was a guy that took me as a friend, and not as a silly boy who didn't know any english. About this record I must say: BUY IT! If you haven't heard it, you must get it now. It's the best there is, and the tracks are fenomenal. I have it myself, so I know how good it is. My favorites are: No mercy, its a shame, and you can try. The other songs ar good also, but that depends on what you like yourself.

First of all, this is not Bobby Khaleel's debut album. He was known as Bronx Style Bob at one point and his debut album "Grandma's Ghost" is nothing short of phenomenal! I played that CD over and over SO MUCH that when I was in school I often said that Bob and I went to college together! He is now tasting different styles and his emotion in his voice is even more powerful. I am happy to own "People Watching" because it's an awesome CD that shows how much Bobby Khaleel has really grown artistically!

Khaleel shows great potential for a debut album.,

I first heard "No Mercy" on MTV2. It immediately brings to mind the artist "Seal". A lot of the same style is brought out in the music and lyrics. Also, a hint of Lenny Kravitz can be heard in a few of the more upbeat songs. A relativly smooth listening album, Khaleel puts forth a fine effort with their debut album. Worth a listen.

i heard the song "no mercy" on the radio, thought it was maybe seal, or peter gabriel, but with a ballsier attitude and less frosting. there is some depth here, probably just the right amount for this great record to never have a chance at cracking "pop" radio. Highly Recommended!!!!

There is no need to skip any of the tracks on this CD because they are all good. I bought it because I love the song "No Mercy" (because it is so true) and was happy to discover that all of the songs are just as good as that one. Give "People Watching" a try and you'll see what I mean! Happy listening!!

What pop music ought to be.,

This album is driven by one of the, without a doubt, prettiest voices in music, Bob Khaleel. The group is comprised of the brain (Khaleel and songwriting partner John O'Brien) on former alternative group Super 8 (which I also highly recommend). These are 10 catchy, clever songs, each using almost an entire different musical style than the other. If one didn't find this album pleasing, I'd wonder about his hearing ability. I can't even pick a favorite track because this album has the amazing ability that you can start it on any track and still say, "This is REALLY good!"

Believe what you are reading in the customer reviews! There really is not a bad song on the entire cd. A friend of mine picked up this cd when she went to see headliner Shawn Mullins. (Khaleel was the opening act.) After I heard it, I went right out and bought it, and now almost 8 years later, this is still one of my all time favorite cds. (Well, not counting my classical cds...)
The vocals are amazing. The cd never fails to put me in a nice mellow mood. Great to pop in the cd player when enjoying a terrific bottle of red.... or white.... or whatever. Buy it, you won't be sorry.
