This review is from: People Weekly Extra Fall 1989 Special Issue - The '80s, Madonna, Donald Trump, Princess Diana, Oliver North, Rock Hudson, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Stephen King, Bill Cosby, Shirley MacLaine (Single Issue Magazine)
Released in September of 1989 a look back at the (as I say) the MOST decadent decade of all time! A time when pop culture was at the height of social decision-making. Yes, 80s had the BEST celebrities, TV Shows, & cultural phenomenons. And hey, I grew up mostly in 90s, & I know this. It's just a fact of life that CAN NOT be changed. Statistically & objectively speaking - 80s were the greatest decade in entertainment!

In fact, almost EVERY successful movie franchise in the last couple of years, is a rehash of 80s tv or cinema. For example- Transformers, Indiana Jones, Terminator, Aliens, Predator, Friday the 13th, Nightmare On Elm St., Rambo, E.T. etc; Except, in the 80s- they were done right! A time when film makers like Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, John Hughes, Woody Allen, Harold Ramis, & Robert Zemeckis thrived through their directorial artistry.

This magazine highlights everything from politics, to the stock market, to the trends, catchphrases, icons; and enigmatic people that defined an era of big hair, off-shoulder shirts, converse shoes, & red leather jackets. An article in the magazine makes it clear that the 80s were clearly dominated by Michael Jackson, however.. It was filled with an extremely ravenous cast of characters.

Included are short stories & profiles on the boom of the stock market. In the 80s, you could essentially become a millionaire overnight. Madonna, the highest grossing female artist of the decade. Donald Trump, the real-estate mogul that solidified his empire. Mary Lou Retton, the first American woman ever to win an individual Olympic Gold Medal. Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker, rise & downfall of fraudulent fundraisers. Crack, a drug phenomenon of the time. Bruce Springsteen, the Boss - 'nuff said. Bill Cosby, an ideal portrait of a father. Mike Tyson, a hard-hitting powerhouse in & outside of the ring. Other articles of note include: Princess Dianna, Stephen King, E.T., NOIR, Ronald Reagan & Mikhail Gorbachev.

Plus lots of cool trivia & loads of statistics that made it "like totally awesome!"
