5.0 out of 5 stars Great debut album, true tallent
I was shocked when I 1st heard this CD. It was so freaking good! This guy has true tallent. He can rap. The single "Welcome 2 Detroit" that features Eminem, is by far the best song on the whole album. It has a really catchy chorus. Of course, you're going to get those people who don't like rock come on here & bash the album & tell you that it's trash. Don't listen to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Trick Trick - The People vs., December 31, 2005
This review is from: The People vs. (Audio CD)

Trick Trick's debut album is "The People vs." (2005). Previous to hearing this one the only thing I knew about Trick Trick was that he was a Detroit bouncer who has been known to beat down several well-known rappers. The first standout on this one for me is "Welcome to Detroit", Trick Trick and Eminem deliver a solid collaboration repping their city. Trick then talks about himself on "My Name is Trick Trick". Another good track has Trick, Eminem and Obie trice (who survived a shooting last night) collaborating for the hardcore "No More to Say". One of my favourite cuts has Trick Trick switching up his style going from thugged out, to delivering a heartfelt dedication to change and god on the exceptional "Leave Your Past". Trick tears into fake rappers with Obie Trice on "War". Trick Trick saves some of the best for last though closing off the album with bangers "Let's Scrap" feat. Diezel and "Head Bussa". Trick Trick delivers genuine thugged out music, backed by a grimy flow. He doesn't grab my attention like other Detroit MC's but is not bad either. If your into Detroit Rap, or want to hear something different check out "The People vs.".

Don't listen to those people, they're just saying that because they don't like rap. But if you are a true rap fan, then this album is most deffinatly for you. The best songs are "Welcome 2 Detroit" "No More To Say" & "War".

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much hype..., December 29, 2005

This album is pure pop. Throughout the entire album Trick Trick makes sure his listeners know how much of a gangster he is, yet none of his songs in a million years would fit the "gangster" genre. After listening to the album 3 times, I'm a little disappointed that i only find a few of the songs appealing.
"Welcome 2 Detroit" ft. Eminem, "Attitude Adjustment" ft. Jazze Pha, and "No More to Say" ft. Eminem and Proof.

Corny lyrics, mediocre beats. If you're an Eminem fan or Detroit rap fan, pick it up. If not, save the $10

I'll give this album 5 * because I like Trick Trick's Raw flavor but I really wanna talk about Proof
People are Sayin he was the best in D12 - No doubt he was the best in D12 100X better than Bizarre and better than Eminem - But what we all should remember was when he was alive and breathing spittin his rhymes like it was his destiny to rap - To everyone mourning his death I'm right there with you but what we should all remember is when he was alive - Buy this album listen to the lyrics soak it all in and when you have finally remembered every lyric that was said on this record - Go get Promatic and listen to that - Proof just rips it up there with Dogmatic - Then memorize all those lyrics - Just think about Proof up in heaven kickin wit Bugz Pac and Biggie and his relatives who have passed away - Hes probably freestylin his heart out - God Bless You All - R.I.P. Proof -

3.0 out of 5 stars Need More Tricks To Make It In This Game!, January 4, 2006
This review is from: The People vs. (Audio CD)
I have to admit that when I heard there was a new rapper out of Detroit, I immediately thought about the success that Eminem and company have had in recent years. Well, it seems this newcomer Trick Trick has enlisted the help of Marshall Mathers and his colleagues for his debut album The People Vs. But saying that, it actually isn't as much as it probably should have been.

Trick Trick does lay out all his past troubles on "M-1," which in turn gives an insight to what seems to be details involving a shooting and the accusations hailed at his involvement. To my amazement, Trick Trick's bitterness is evident on almost the ENTIRE album...a bold move for any debut artist. "Welcome To Detroit City" with Eminem and "War" featuring Obie Trice are the strongest songs, followed by the oddly smooth delivery of "Leave Your Past" "Big Mistake" and "Let Roll" featuring Mr. Porter.

But there isn't much left on the album that you can consider great considering they almost all have some form of angst behind them. "Attitude Adjustment" features Jazze Pha doing a laid back beat, but then Trick Trick's lyrics are too hard for the song. There's even a wack track with Eminem on it! The song "No More To Say" features a disappointing showing by both Eminem and Proof. And the three closing tracks ("What Da F*ck," "Let's Scrap,"and "Head Bussa") are all over-the-top in their ferociousness.

Trick Trick might want to take a break, take a few more notes, and come back with a cool head. It's obvious he's mad at the world over his past legal troubles, but a lot of people aren't in the mood to hear such things when they're buying an album. Most people want to escape from the B.S. that the world displays, but Trick Trick brings it all to the forefront for all to see. Sadly, The People Vs. still has Trick Trick fighting to prove to everybody that he truly is worth your attention.

This is an absolutely great album from start to finish. It's got hardcore lyrics and dope production. I'm surprised that this guy didn't sign with Eminem. This is hardcore gangsta rap not any of that commercial party stuff. Welcome to Detroit is one of the best songs of the year. Buy it as soon as you can. This is one of last year's best albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars so Tight!, January 3, 2006
This review is from: The People vs. (Audio CD)
From the first track to the last Trick Trick brought us a taste of the streets! The beginning songs were hard, fast paced songs. The middle slowed down a bit (but it was still awesome) and the end of the cd returns to hard and fast. For Trick Tricks first majorly released cd his cd should be on top of the charts for a long, long time!
