To My Fellow Travelers,
 
Before I tell the story about what inspired me to write a Cancun travel guide, let me first start out by saying thank you for considering People's Choice Guide Cancun. My name is Eric Rabinowitz, a singer/songwriter from New York City and a visually handicapped Author. The eye problem is a major motivation for why I write a Cancun travel guide, and the following is a little background on what inspired me to undertake this fun and unusual adventure.
 
Why I write... one of the main reasons why I started writing a travel book about Cancun is because I do not enjoy reading. I realize this has to sound a bit strange, but reading is like my kryptonite! This is due to eye surgery that went wrong which I underwent as an infant, to remove a cataract. As a result, I was left totally blind in one eye, and after a cataract was successfully removed from the other eye, I was still left with sup-par vision in the so-called "good eye." With only one functioning eye, reading causes me to experience uncomfortable eye-strain and a persistent headache, almost every time. When I travel, since I enjoy learning as much as I can before I arrive at my destination, I have no choice but to struggle through reading all sorts of one-sided information offered in travel guides. Additionally what I had consistently found on the Internet is most often too long-winded, fragmented and grossly inaccurate.
 
Why I chose Cancun... since I enjoy vacation destinations that offer great beaches, food, culture and nightlife, and being it is only a few hours by air from my hometown of New York City, Cancun was an obvious choice. What I could never have imagined is that I would be returning again and again to a place I have become so passionate about, to write about and to update my very own Cancun travel guide!
 
Upon your approach into Cancun International Airport, as you look out over the crystal clear turquoise water, striking white sand beaches and thick lush greenery, you will realize you are in for an incredible vacation. This is the impression I got when I first visited Cancun in March of 2000. During that initial visit, there was one thing that struck me. I encountered many Cancun restaurants, clubs, bars and hotels that were never mentioned in any of the guidebooks. Furthermore, when I read a great review, I wondered if what I was reading was completely honest and unbiased. It seemed that many of the guidebooks included the same few establishments and presented descriptions that sounded very similar to one another. Was this merely a coincidence? Was there something more going on beneath the surface? How is anyone to really know for sure?
 
When I began to set the wheels in motion to write a Cancun travel guide in 2003, my goal was to design the type of book that I would like to take with me on my trips. It should include as many restaurants, clubs, bars and hotels that can possibly fit in a book, while delivering easy to find, straight forward information that one can find and use quickly, on the go. Since all the other Cancun travel guides expressed the opinions of only a few staff writers, I decided a well-rounded book should give a perspective from the customers' point of view. To accomplish this, I created a website where vacationers can anonymously give ratings and reviews of their favorite, and not so favorite, Cancun establishments. This method of gathering feedback ensures that the information the book presents is accurate, honest, objective and insightful. By including the opinions of experienced Cancun vacationers along with the establishments' details, People's Choice Guide Cancun is a truly new and innovative concept in travel guidebook writing. I sincerely believe that this Cancun travel guide will help make your vacation so much more enjoyable. In fact, I guarantee it!

I love my new People's Choice Guide for Cancun. I had a previous edition and recently received my new 2010 book. It has everything you want to know about Cancun and it travels with me on my frequent trips to "Paradise". It is compiled with information received from many sources, including comments, suggestions, and recommendations from the public. It is not a book written by just one person's opinion, which to me makes it so valuable. This book is a great source of information whether it's your first visit to Cancun or one of many visits...you can always rely on the People's Choice Guide to give you the information you want.

People's Choice Guide Cancun is the best tool for pre-planning and taking along on a Cancun, Mexico vacation. Forget Fodors, Lonely Planet, Moon, Arthur and Pauline Frommer's Cancun because all together combined, they don't have nearly as many Cancun restaurants and hotels covered! PCG Cancun was so handy in that I could be standing in front of any Cancun restaurant or riding by on a bus, look it up, and know if it's going to be worth going to or not. Another huge plus is that it is not written by a couple of ghostwriters, but it actually includes the opinions of real Cancun vacationers. I found the reviews to be honest and forthcoming, and the ratings to be extremely accurate. There were several instances where I listened to the suggestions of what dish to order at specific Cancun restaurants and I was never disappointed. The recommendations were that spot on!

The best way to use the People's Choice Guide Cancun in my opinion is to look up and choose your Cancun hotel or all inclusive resort, in advance of your vacation, from the book or via the People's Choice Guide (.com) website. While in Cancun, I recommend taking it when you are out and about to look up Cancun restaurants and clubs in the Hidden Picks and Establishment Category lists. They can also be found listed in alphabetical order in the section with their info, ratings and reviews. Everything will be there, from the Cancun Hotel Zone to Downtown, I was so impressed with this enormously helpful guidebook, I cannot recommend it enough!

If you are interested in traveling to Cancun, then this is the book you should consult first and then take with you as you explore or revisit the region. In the area of food, everything from the classiest restaurants to ordering a pizza from Domino's is covered. A large percentage of the visiting population will appreciate the content of page 367, which is a listing of the gay/lesbian friendly restaurants and bars.
In terms of shopping, everything from Wal Mart to the most high-end purchases is covered. Issues from medical and dental care to tipping and bribes are also explained. In reading the first 44 pages I learned how Tequila and other distinctive Mexican liquors are made, the quality of vanilla in Mexico, natural digestive aids and how to repel the local insects and sea lice. This was very interesting as I was unaware of a lot of this information.
We are regularly exposed to commercials about fantastic bargains for travel and vacations, but it is clear to me that the best bargain for a Cancun vacation is the purchase of this book. Narrow in width, it would fit in a back pocket or into any kind of small bag.
