5.0 out of 5 stars Good for acid reflux, and also for insect stings
A ER nurse told me that when someone comes in with bee stings and a reaction, they give Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 25 - 50 mg and Pepcid AC (famotidine) 10 mg. to counteract the venom. Evidently Pepcid AC is an H2 blocker (anti-histamine) that works with Benadryl (an H1 blocker) to keep the swelling and inflammation to a minimum, reducing allergic reactions...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for acid reflux, and also for insect stings, August 17, 2011

A ER nurse told me that when someone comes in with bee stings and a reaction, they give Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 25 - 50 mg and Pepcid AC (famotidine) 10 mg. to counteract the venom. Evidently Pepcid AC is an H2 blocker (anti-histamine) that works with Benadryl (an H1 blocker) to keep the swelling and inflammation to a minimum, reducing allergic reactions.

Here in North Carolina, we have lots of hornets and wasps, and also the dreaded fire ant. I keep a bottle of Benadryl tablets and now a bottle of Pepcid AC tablets in a kitchen drawer for easy access when someone comes in with multiple bites or stings. Anyone who has stepped in a fire ant nest will know how fast the victim swells up, and how dangerous multiple stings can be. Of course anyone who is allergic to bee stings, or who reacts badly to insect bites should seek medical help and NOT rely on home treatment of any kind. But for mild reactions and general discomfort, a dose of both Pepcid AC and Benadryl will help reduce the swelling.

Pepcid AC also works really well as an antacid, without requiring days of treatment the way Nexium or Prevacid do. For occasional heartburn or acid reflux, Pepcid AC is an effective, fast acting product. Our home medicine chest won't be without it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for the Impulse Eater, June 12, 2002

Pepcid AC works great if you know what foods cause heartburn, anticipate heartburn, and know enough to take the pill before you ingest the evil, say, ice cream with potato chips and pickles. But I'm the kind of person who walks out of the house with my shoes untied. So because of the wait time between when you take the product and when it kicks in, I'd give it only 4 stars.

I gave this product to my mother, who suffers from heartburn almost daily. She says that Pepcid AC is her favorite product on the market. It gives her quick relief and she can take it anytime, before her heartburn sets in or after it's already started. Knowing that it's helped her, I'd definitely recommend it.

Pepcid AC worked very well for me. It worked especially well if I took it before bed when I had heartburn at night. I took it before eating tomato-based or spicy foods and it prevented the heartburn from even starting! I'd highly recommend this product! The tablets fit easily into a pocket or purse! I liked that too!

5.0 out of 5 stars WELCOME RELIEF, February 2, 2004
This review is from: Pepcid AC Acid Reducer (20 mg), Maximum Strength, 50-Count Tablets (Health and Beauty)
Don't know why but the wonderful one with whom I share bed and board always has a negative reaction (translation: annoying gas and indigestion) to stuffing. (Not stuffing himself at a meal but stuffing as in dressing)

Doesn't matter whether the stuffing is in a turkey (his favorite) or pork chops or simply served dressing.

He's found that taking one of these tablets up to 30 minutes before eating solves all of those problems. Now, he's happy enjoying his stuffing while stuffing.

This review is from: Pepcid AC Acid Reducer (20 mg), Maximum Strength, 50-Count Tablets (Health and Beauty)
1-star for "max strength" and 5-stars for pepcid "original strength", given equivalent 20mg (comparing one max "20mg" pill or two "original" (10mg) pills in dosage). The "max" has to be different in some ingredient or quality from the "Original Strength":

a). original strength is 10mg and always works great... I normally take 2 (20mg) up to 3x a day. Been taking it for a few years due to medical condition requiring certain medication that can upset stomach to overacidity. Pepcid AC is not known to interact with my medication, per my doctor and the literature.
b). "maximum strength" is 20 mg and label reads the same as original strength, BUT DOESN'T WORK.
c). Last year and again this year, cvs ran out of the original strength which is reliable. I tried maximum strength (1 pill only, because it's supposed to be equivalent to 2 original/10mg pills).
d). Both times "max strength" didn't control my stomach, and after 2 or so days, I got overactive gas bloating gurgling etc and painful acidity. Both times I returned to original strength pepcid AC and got relief almost immediately. THIS time from the "max strength" version not working effectively, I also got some ulcerated sore spots in my stomach (endoscopy confirmed). Also the first night I was not only in pain but also very nauseated and threw up a few times (no blood), after which the nausea went away, though the extreme stomach acidic and gut upset remained. Once I obtained and returned to original strength version of pepcid ac, the acidic stomach problem became again controllable, so that my stomach could heal after the ulcers caused by the "max strength" not working. Both times, this year and last year, my diet, medication, stressors, and other conditions or variables were and have been the SAME before and after... only difference was version of pepcid used.
e). I conclude that "maximum strength" is NOT the same strength, though label statement of ingredients look the same and 1 pill is supposed to be same dosage as 2 original pills. The active ingredient must not be the same strength in actuality, and/or there must be some different other "inactive" ingredient, filler or synthesis or manufacturing trace byproduct.
f). I will avoid "maximum strength" pepcid ac from now on like the plague, and stock up on "original strength" pepcid ac several at a time and then reorder.

PS: I found that amazon offers the best price on pepcid ac original strength 10mg, so thank the Lord so my stomach doesn't become porous, I can not be up all night, and other dangerous nasty situations. Because its become harder to find in stores... e.g., cvs doesn't always have it on the shelves nowadays (they used to have more, and their price is expensive) and walmart has it sometimes but not always. THANK YOU AMAZON MARKETPLACE... even if I had to pay taxes, you compete effectively with brick and mortar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pepcid AC, April 21, 2011
I give this product to my dog daily. She has an ulcer which is common in dogs who have had mass cell tumors. If I'm feeling a little indigestion - I take it myself as well. Always works for me - and my dog too!
