good debut,

This review is from: Pepper's Hangout (Audio CD)
`Pepper's Hangout' was Johnson's first LP but it wasn't released until a few years ago. Aside from a couple of lame cover choices (The Things I Used to do", "High Heel Sneakers") it is a pretty good album. The two slow blues ("Married Woman Blues", "Looking for My Baby") are both vintage Johnson, while the instrumental title track is a simple but funky groove with awesome guitar playing. Though his other Delmark and Alligator albums are stronger, `Pepper's Hangout' is still essential for any Jimmy Johnson fan.

Pepper's Hangout is Jimmy Johnson at his best. This vetern bluseman can sing and play a mean guitar and he really shines on this disc. My particular favorite is The Things That I Used To Do, but there is not a bad song in the lot.
