Welcome back!,

This a a great new CD from Blessid Union of Souls! A very solid album with great depth. It is nice to have BUOS back after a few years of silence. The music has a bit of an alternative punk style with lots of strength. I highly reccomend that you listen to the album a few times in a row. The songs really get in your head, much like the famous "I believe" song that BUOS is famous for. Enjoy!

This is Blessid Union's first album in a post 9/11 America. What we must be cognizant of when considering an album like this from a deeply personal and intelligent such as BUOS is that they are going to sound different; there is going to be a different feel altogether. Life in America has changed and musicians reflect this in their music. Listen to the lyrics of this album, the instrumentation and Elliot's magnificent vocalizations. You will not be disappointed, you will be moved.

They should have waited for inspiration to come by,

I am a big BUOS fan since Home. Sadly, I cannot help but agree that this album has been put together in a rush for some strange purpose. The songs are devoid of upbeat and inspirational melody and rythm, and are basically disjoint pieces ou mildly interesting sounds assembled. I thought twice before giving 1 star, but I think this will contribute to balance the overall score which, up to now, has been somewhat misleading. I'm also very demanding beacause I'm a real fan of the band. So I guess I'm entitled to firmly express my dislike for this one and expect to shock the guys into coming up with a cd in the line of first two, if they ever come across this review.

10 years later and Blessid Union is stronger than ever. From the opener "Could Have Been With You" to the wrenching bookend "I Was Never Here" the band has poured more heart, soul and musicianship into this record than any of their previous efforts. Thank God that that this record wasn't overly produced or being handel by a major label other wise it would have been like all the other fly-by-nights acts being shoveled into the mindless MTVers who really believe that that dribble is what's worthwhile. Could some of the tracks have been a little more polished? Sure, but after you really take a listen having them anyother way would be a shame. Lyricly that album is staggering.
Just like songs like "Nora" from HOME, there are songs on PERCEPTION That are painfully real. In a good way. "I Have Just Begun To Live" is a powerful testament to Eloit's faith in God. The haunting "Let's Get Out of Here" referenceing a couples post abortion efforts to keep it together is heart wrentching. "..My Little Friend" & "I Still Believe In Love" are a beautiful window into this band. If you're into music for quality and not quanity then Blessid Union delivers.

Blessid Union of Souls is back with a great CD. There is a good mix of high energy songs and ballads, and Eliot sounds as good as ever. Blessid Union of Soul fans will not be disappointed! A much better CD than their Singles one.

This is not what I expected from this wonderful & talented band 'Blessid Union Of Souls', in the 2005 CD release titled "Perception". I own their previous wonderful, solid & inspiring CD releases, "Home", " Blessid Union Of Souls" & "Walking Off The Buzz". This CD is certainly below parr when compared to their previous releases. The CD has 16 tracks, with solid two tracks, "I Still Believe In Love" & "Better Side Of Me" [rated 5 stars each]. Other six notable track include, "Could've Been With You", "Wild Side Of Me", "A Thousand And One", "Let's Get Out Of Here", "Say Hello To My Little Friend" & "I was Never Here" [rated 4 stars each]. The remaining 8 tracks are either ordinary [rated 3 stars] or weak [rated 2 stars] tracks.
My overall rating of this album is 3,44 stars which approximates 3 stars : it is a good effort from this great band, but they can certainly produce a better release/product if their past releases have something to go by!

I have been a huge Blessid fan since Home. Their style, their lyrics, their harmony - it's always struck a chord (no pun intended) in me that no other band has. Perception is no different. The ballads on the CD are by far the best: Better Side of Me, I Still Believe in Love, and (my favorite song on the CD) Lets Get out of here. They can really stir up emotions. The faster songs are good too - like "Wild Side of Me" and "Could've been with you" sound like the fantastic Blessid that we know. Overall, it's amazing Blessid. And I'm counting down until I can hear them live again!!!!! I hope they get everything settled and get out on tour soon.

i like buos. their cd "home" is one of the ten i would take to an island for all time. top to bottom solid cd. since "home" the discs have either had holes or are just kind of mediocre. "perception" hearkens back to "home" and i dig it.

While not their best produced CD, it's clearly their most personal.
Not as catchy as their other CDs... but I still like it. I reccomend their self-titled CD instead.

I have been a faithful fan of BUOS since their debut album, Home. I have seen the band play numerous times. Since their early days, the band has been through many changes, most recently with the parting of Eddie and C.P. This album has a "thrown together" feel. My theory? Lead singer Eliot Sloan's solo album didn't completely make it off the ground so the record company demanded that he and the band cough up an album. The lyrical quality of this album is not up to par with the three previous albums. They've also attempted to change gears musically with mediocre results. I also feel that the CD is suffering from Roth's absence. In addition to his instrumental contributions to the band, he also served as co-producer and provided string arrangements.
I hope that this album doesn't signal the commercial end of BUOS. While I prefer most of their songs that never see radio play, record companies love hit singles. This album failed to produce a "She Likes me for Me" or "I Believe." Hopefully, Sloan will focus all of his inspiration back onto his band and the new musiciain lineup will begin to truly mesh. This band is entirely too talented to disappear off of the radio radar over one so-so album. Regardless, I am still a fan, and all in all, this is still a better album than much of the over-produced rubbish on the shelves right now. |
