Book Description

September 5, 2005
Erin Paterson runs her grandfather’s law firm in Glasgow, and is an uncompromisingly aggressive negotiator. But, to a great extent, her obsessive work ethic conceals a terrible vulnerability. For all her ability to control the working day, her personal life is in disrepair.

When her sister’s old schoolfriend is brutally murdered, Erin’s life begins to unravel. And the past, held at bay for so long, comes slithering out of the darkness to expose a secret in the family that should have remained dead and buried.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“Quite simply, this is one of the best crime novels you’re likely to read this year. As a first novel, it’s quite extraordinary, and marks the arrival of an exceptional new talent on the British mystery scene”
—John Connolly

“I really enjoyed it – she’s a breath of fresh air in the Scottish crime fiction field. It’s got lots of genuinely black comedic moments but also some grimly painful storytelling”
—Val McDermid

Highly suspenseful. The audiobook was extremely well narrated by Catherine McCarron. I hope she does the next book too. I want to read Death's Sister, but it's been difficult finding a copy to purchase ([...] ), audio or otherwise.

Great job Ms. Anderson. Please keep it up!

Gayla

1.0 out of 5 stars Is it just me?, February 23, 2006
This review is from: Perception of Death (Mass Market Paperback)
Not sure if it's just me, but I thought this book had a pathetic ending. So bad, in fact, that I re-read the last few chapters several times, in case I had just misunderstood. Alas, such was not the case. The last chapter provides a "surprise" ending which is poor and predictable.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Novel to Keep You Up Late at Night, February 5, 2006
This review is from: Perception of Death (Mass Market Paperback)
While there are some very melodramatic moments in this novel, it is all in all, one of the best thrillers I have read this year. There might be a little trouble with following the complexities of Scots legal partnerships but I thought the author did a fair job at clarifying the essential points.

The heroine is likeable and brave, the book is fast paced and engaging. More than one character in this novel is "mad as a box of frogs"-- a great phrase. I can hardly wait to read the upcoming sequel.
