Superb for an EP/remix album release,
By Ted Del Prato "technodemon" (Acworth, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perception (Audio CD)
I have known of God Module for some time now, but until recently have neglected to buy any of their releases. I'm eagerly awaiting their new album, so I picked up Perception to tide me over. Usually I don't bother to buy EPs very often (some of the imports tend to be too expensive to be worth it), but Perception is surprisingly well put together for a non-full length release. It consists of only three entirely new songs by God Module, but also features several remixes of those songs by other bands. Each of the new songs are great both music and lyric-wise, and represent electronic aggro-industrial at it's finest. The remixes range from high bpm club mixes to more trance-like atmospheric ones, and feature acts such as Dismantled, Parallel, and Cut.Rate.Box. While not exactly the next big thing in industrial/ebm music, any fan of the genre would do well to add Perception to their collection.

This is the FUTURE,
By A Customer
This review is from: Perception (Audio CD)
As hinted at with their debut, God Module prove that they are the future of hard electronic dance music with Perception. The remixes provided here are decent enough but are nowhere near the focal point of the EP. Perception, Interference and Transcend are the 3 original God Module tracks this release is built around and they are in a word incredible. Mr. Bangert's words and vocals are eons past the usual stale EBM lyrics found in acts such as Funker and mean much more when you past the initial surface than what any future pop "star" will ever write while they whine about whatever might sell them a few more discs. God Module surpass EBM and redefine Electronic pop. Essential!

Seems unfinished....,
By flaviolius (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perception (Audio CD)
God Module's latest EP, Perception, has finally been released after a lengthy delay during which GM changed labels and personnel. Not surprisingly, the EP is a little sparse and doesn't have the instant hooks and refined production of their debut album, Artificial. There are only three new tracks on the EP. "Perception" seems rather thin and watered-down when compared to GM's previous work, despite a decent synth melody. "Transcend" has a nice dance groove to it, but the female vocals seem out of place and extraneous; a distraction rather than an important addition. The best of the trio is "Interference", which contains the interlocking melodies and primal energy that are God Module's trademarks, not to mention nice intense vocals. All three tracks rely largely on straight-up heavy distortion rather than carefully constructed programming, and the songs feel incomplete as a result. Each track is also remixed by the likes of Lame Immortelle, cut.rate.box, Parallel, and Grendel - there are eight remixes in all. It's always interesting to hear bands reinterpret one another's work, but as the mixes are largely slicker than the original tracks, God Module seems to take a back seat on their own EP. Hopefully, God Module will get back into the groove of things for their next release. Unfortunately, Perception's glass is half-empty rather than half-full.
