The "Anti Hero", September 11, 2009
This review is from: Percolator (Audio CD)
I grew up admiring the usual guitar heroes, Clapton, Page, Hendrix, Stevie Ray....These guys hit you over the head with their playing. There was always a big "Wow" factor with their music. I still get "Wowed" when I listen to some of Jimmy Page's early work, mainly because of the tone he coaxed out of his gear. But as I got older and matured musically, I developed a thirst for the more subtle, sublime, less flashy style.
Jim Weider is my "Anti Hero" A guitar players player. He uses the guitar as a tool to express his musicality. He knows what his guitar can do for him and uses it's capabilities to serve his musical will. Think Roy Buchanan or Beck.
Jim and his band take your musical ears in new directions, along paths less traveled.
If you're tired of being hit by the proverbial "hammer", treat yourself to This band's tight, intellectual interaction.
They clearly create their music for the sake of the art, never to demonstrate their musical might, formidable as it is.
Enjoy!

Mix of Rock & Jazz, June 15, 2008
This review is from: Percolator (Audio CD)
This is my only Weider CD and I would recommend it, like the title of my review says it is a mixture of Jazz & Rock. It has a nice flow to it and before you know it, you're done listening. I don't think with repeated play that this is the type of CD that you ever get sick of hearing.

Its Not Fusion- Its Groove!, March 7, 2007
This review is from: Percolator (Audio CD)
Jazz/Rock Fusion got old because it became a forum for instrumental music played by excellent musicians noodling endlessly fast and complex ego-driven licks over exotic rhythms.
What Jim and the JWB do on "Percolater" is different- its insturmental jazz/rock where excellent musicians play their parts in service of the songs and the grooves. The soloist ego is sent packing and each part and solo is honed to fit the tune. The result is fun, exciting and refreshing- unlike any recent fusion recording. All of the players are excellent, the songwriting and recording are top-notch too.
Do yourself a favor and buy this recording. You won't regret it. [...] to see, read and hear more about Jim, and his projects. He is an American Music Master and a true jewel in American Musicscape.
