This review is from: Percussions of Guinea 2 (Audio CD)
One of the best, if not THE best percussion recordings available. If you enjoy West African drumming, you have found a 'must- have' CD here! I guarantee total satisfaction with this music as long as you have a heart that beats, and ears that hear. There is more energy here than you can imagine, and it will move you.

spellbinding percussion,
This review is from: Les Percussions de Guinee, Vol. 2 / Percussion of Guinea (Audio CD)
I dont own this second volume. but I DO own Volume 1.
Since noone has reviewed the album, I thought I would share my thoughts on the capability of this group. This is NOT background music, and it does not have melodies that are easy to take in, like Paul Simon's Rhythm of the Saints (which is a great album, just simple, and melodic and easy to listen to). This music is complex, multi-layered polyrhythmic music, that is not suitable to be on in the background. It is the foreground. It needs to be BLASTED out of good speakers. It will make you want to get up and bounce up and down to the rhythms. It is music to listen to around a huge fire. NOT at the dinner table with grandparents. it is highly enjoyable, and incredibly good. The rhthmic abilities of these guys is insane. It is all so heavily layered and weaving in and out of each other. And the recording quality of (Volume 1, so I assume Vol 2 as well) is OUTSTANDING. |
