Editorial Reviews

Review

From the reviews: "‘Percutaneous Tumor Ablation’ is a new volume in the series Medical Radiology: Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Oncology published by Springer Verlag. The book aims to help radiologists improve their skills in percutaneous image guided ablation techniques. … The illustrative material is in general excellent, with well chosen examples of treatment efficacy. … Overall this book provides a useful resource and will probably be used mostly as a starting point for finding out more about individual treatment techniques." (Dr Gail ter Haar, RAD Magazine, October, 2008) “Dr Thomas Vogl and a group of authors, principally from Germany, have banded together to produce a useful book that reviews a wide variety of … techniques not only for the treatment of hepatic tumors, but also for many benign and malignant lesions throughout the body. … We have no difficulty recommending this readable and interesting volume to those involved in percutaneous ablation therapies. … Radiology fellows who are training in tumor ablation techniques will find this volume particularly helpful.” (Peter L. Munk and Gerald M. Legiehn, Radiology, Vol. 254 (1), January, 2010)

From the Back Cover

Thermal ablation has become an integral part of oncology, especially in the field of interventional oncology. This very comprehensive book encompasses the different technologies employed in thermal ablation, its indications and the results achieved in various clinical conditions. The first part of the book clearly explains the basics of thermal ablative techniques such as laser-induced thermotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, cryotherapy, and localized tumor therapy. The latest developments in the application of minimally invasive therapies in localized neoplastic disease are demonstrated. In the main part of the book, techniques of guiding the applicators to the target structures by use of different imaging tools such as ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are discussed. The results are presented for a variety of clinical indications, including liver and lung tumors and metastases and some rather rare conditions involving the kidney, the head and neck, the prostate, and soft tissue structures. A large number of acknowledged experts have contributed to the book, which benefits from a lucid structure and excellent images.

4.0 out of 5 stars Percutaneous Tumor Ablation in adiation Oncology, September 13, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Percutaneous Tumor Ablation in Medical Radiology (Medical Radiology / Diagnostic Imaging) (Hardcover)
It is a good book. The field is widely covered though not as thoroughly as one expected. Radio frequency ablation, my main interest in the book is extensively covered. SEMM's cold coagulator, unfortunately, not available now, is not covered. One wishes more available brands and their characteristics vis-a-vis one another were detailed. The application of this modality in breast tumor management can be very pertinent, especially in under-developed countries and needs to be considered with recent references. Quite recent edition. The price is a steal bargain.
