Book Description

July 1778. A French fleet of mighty warships under Comte d’Estaing arrives off Sandy Hook to aid the colonies. The British Navy finds itself hard pressed to fulfill the duties cast upon it.

Vice Admiral Lord Anthony has temporarily transferred his flag to the frigate, HMS Peregrine for diplomatic duty. The ship’s captain is Lord Anthony’s brother Gabe. The mission is to transport prisoners of war and their families to Norfolk, Virginia in exchange for British prisoners. Sailing under a flag of truce Peregrine is viciously attacked.

The roar of cannons and smell of gunpowder once again fills the air as Lord Anthony’s ships struggle to do their duty.

BOSON BOOKS also features the first four books by Michael Aye in The Fighting Anthonys series.

Editorial Reviews

"This latest episode of the Fighting Anthony's story is again set in Caribbean and American waters during the period when the French first appear on the station after entering the American War of Independence. It sees the family having to deal with a relative of an old nemesis bent on revenge.

As usual the book is fast paced with plenty of action sequences without detailed descriptions of ship handling. Over the series quite a long list of characters has been built up, many of which make an appearance so it was useful to have a character list at the start to refresh the memory.

From the Author

Enjoy and fair winds my friend. -Michael Aye

This series continues to be a great read. It is written in a manner that pulls you in to the story and lives of the characters and events from the British navy at this point in history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peregrine September 16, 2013

I have read all his books and he seems to get better and better (which I didn't think he could), the story seemed so real and had me on the edge thru the entire book, I have read some lesser reviews on all his books and evidently some of them were reading the words only. just to be reading. If they don't enjoy these books they need to stick to comic books.

The books just keep getting better. It's hard to say something I haven't already said. Well written, well edited, a perfect story. Michael Aye has a knack for maintaining my interest. His character are likeable or complete rogues. Smell the cannon smoke in the heat of battle and get ready for the clash of swords . If you like age of sail you will love Michael Aye.

When I didn't think it could get any better it did. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The best book I have read in years. What's next?

The best of the series that keeps getting better. Amazing plot, I like the list of Characters page, Nothing to not like about this book. Feel the wind in your hair, ocean spray on your face, taste the rum and hear the sound as cannons fire. Totally recommended.

Wow. The book is GREAT. The masters of the genre had better look out. Mr. Aye is moving up with a near perfect book to his credit. I have enjoyed them all but this one is all a person could want.

When I sat down with my signed copy I couldn't put it down. My wife finally went to bed without me. I have read and re-read most of the Age of Sail authors and this series has done more for the genre than anything in recent times. A master story teller. Peregrine is the best in a series where all the books have been good. I have seen the characters mature as the author's writing ability has matured. Aye creates a story like no other. I can close my eyes and I'm on his ship along with Dagan, Jake and of course Gabe. Keep on writing. You have one fan that's hooked for life.

The best book yet. Michael Ayes books are addictive. You can't put them down. We have bought the entire series and my husband is now rereading them. In looking at the authors website and seeing he is a retired navy guy it's easy to see how he can create such a picture of ships and the sea.

More About the Author
Michael Aye is a retired naval (mustang) officer. Joining the navy at age 17, he turned 19 riding a "Tin Can" in Vietnam. During twenty-two years of service, Michael held all the enlisted ranks from E-1 to E-9. He also held the ranks of CWO2 through CWO4 and finally retired as a full Lieutenant. Mike has sailed the Med, the North Atlantic, the Caribbean, the Black Sea, and the Western Pacific by way of the Panama Canal. During Mike's twenty-two years in our nation's service, he spent a significant amount of time stationed with the USMC, first as a Hospital Corpsman, and later as a Physician Assistant. He retired as the Base Medical Officer at the Marine Corps Logistical Base in Albany, Georgia. Upon retiring from the navy Mike attended the University of Nebraska College of Medicine where he specialized in the treatment of allergy and asthma, and is now a partner in a busy allergy practice with four clinics in South Georgia. Mike is married to his teenage sweetheart, and has two children and six grandchildren. Mike is very active in the community and supports Dixie Youth Baseball as well as other community organizations including Lee County Sertoma. He is a lifetime member of the VFW. Mike has always been interested in the history of Colonial America and the British and French wars. His greatest influence as a writer is probably Alexander Kent, but also credits James Nelson and Julian Stockwin as authors who made him realize there's still a place and market for sea fiction today. Mike's plan calls for twelve Fighting Anthonys dealing with the American Revolutionary War, and - if there is a demand - another twelve dealing with the British war with France. Mike also plans a series tentatively titled "The birth of a Nation", Featuring an American Privateer, Malichi Mundy. His ship will be the Avenger.
