For those of you who wish to incorporate a co-creative partnership with nature in a home, apartment or office environment, both Workbook and Workbook II will be of special interest. You do not need to have a garden or farm to establish a partnership with nature and work co-creatively to achieve a balanced environment.

The environmental processes introduced in the Workbook and the energy processes in the Workbook and the energy processes in Workbook II may be very different in concept, but they are equal in importance. To work with nature co-creatively through the environmental processes but ignore the energy processes would be to exclude half of the picture. We would, in fact, be tying one of our hands and one of nature's hands behind our respective backs.

About the Author

Machaelle Small Wright is a nature researcher, teacher, essence practitioner and developer, writer and co-founder of Perelandra, a nature research center in the Virginia countryside. Since 1976, she has been working directly with the overlighting intelligences in nature, widely known as devas and nature spirits, in a co-creative relationship. Co-creative gardening, co-creative health programs and co-creative science are three of her major developments.

If I had to name the single person, alive or dead, who has had the greatest impact on my life it would have to be Machaelle Small Wright. For me, Garden Workbook II represents the core of her work but, like Dancing..., it is not a good entry point to the ideas and processes pioneered by Wright. To begin to appreciate the full flavour of Wright's work your heart and mind need to be pervious and you need to be able to accept, at least as a working hypothesis, that nature has intelligence. Wright brings a highly practical, and supremely down to earth approach to processes that may be essential if you want to create balance in yourself and your environment. To begin, read whichever of her other books draws you. For example, Wright's semi-autobiographical work, Behaving.... Or, if you like plants or animals or are interested in the environment, Garden Workbook I. If you're primarily concerned with issues like human health, MAP may be where you should start. Or there's Flower Essences or Co-creative Science. These books take a while to absorb. Bits of them are quite difficult, because the approach is so different. But gradually you may begin to feel comfortable with the ideas and processes contained in them. This may be the point at which to venture into Garden Workbook II, if you feel you now want to expand the scope of your work. While primarily focused on environmental issues, the book teaches you to work at the energy level and some of the processes it sets out can be applied in any field. It provides a stepping-stone to those two humdingers, Perelandra Microbial Balancing Program Manual, and Dancing...

I have been working with the Perelandra processes for some years now and this spring I found I had a need for this specific book as I was creating a new garden. As with many of Maechelle's book, this one is easy to read, informative and delivers what it says. For someone who has many of the other books this will feel redundant in many places. I'm glad I got it at a discount because I only needed a few specific pages for the processes I was doing. You definitely need to have the first garden workbook to get going with co-creative gardening. I would recommend this only if you have a specific problem/need and this is called for, or if you're steeping yourself in all aspects of co-creative gardening. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of redundancy and because I wish I could have accessed the specific piece of info I needed without buying a whole book.
