About the Author

The Pocket Cyclopedia is compiled annually by Rich Perelman, a respected authority on cigars. Whether in sporting events such as the Olympic Games, at festivals like the Centennial Celebration of the Statue of Liberty, or in a smoke-filled room, Rich has brought together careful preparation and an innovative approach to satisfy the informational and recreational intersets of cigars enthusiasts.

His Perelman, Pioneer & Co. team provides event management and marketing services for a diverse set of clients in the United States and Europe, with a passionate side interest in cigars, publishing and cigar festivals.

The seventh edition of his Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars, the definitive reference to cigars marketed nationally in the United States, was published in December 2000 to complement his two other industry-standard works: Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Havana Cigars and Perelman's Pocket Cigar & Pipe Finder, the latter a trade reference.

He is a frequent speaker at industry trade seminars such as the International Cigar Exposition in Las Vegas and his "Views from a Smoke-Filled Room" commentary has appeared in Cigar Lifestyles, Cigars & More, The Cigar Monthly and Smokeshop. He has also been a regular guest on U.S. cigar-talk-radio programs such as "Lighten' Up" and "Cigar Renaissance."

Perelman headed the Press Operations Department of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee for the 1984 Olympic Games, responsible for the personal and professional needs of 9,150 press, radio and television media. Other high-profile assignments have included the 1986 celebration of the Centennial of the Statue of Liberty, the 1987 Pan American Games, 1990 Goodwill Games, the 1992 National Columbus Quincentennial Celebration, the 1993 Olympic Games, the 1993 World University Games and the 1996 Olympic Games.

Perelman is an attorney by training, earning his Juris Doctor degree from Loyola (Los Angeles) Law School in 1981. He became a member of the State Bar of California the same year. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1978. He lives in Los Angeles.

This review is from: Perelman's Pocket Cyclopedia of Cigars, 2001 edition (Paperback)
I expected the cyclopedia to include pictures of the cigar bands. It doesn't. Without a rosetta stone to correlate the listing in the cyclopedia to the actual cigar, it's pretty usless to me.
The info listed; shape, name, length, ring, and wrapper; can already be found any number of places on the Net.
