If precise cutting and maintaining an accurate 1/4 seam allowance present too much of a challenge, the techniques outlined in this book may be the answer. Patches are pieced together on a single sheet of foundation paper so there is no need to sew multiple units together to assemble one block. The technique is clearly explained with step-by-step diagrams and instructions for sixty traditional 6 blocks, all with patterns available for photocopying or scanning. The quilt gallery gives some good ideas for combining blocks and borders with the use of inspiring colour combinations. NO PINS - NO KIDDING! I don't always have the patience for paper-piecing, especially when it comes to assembling the sections of a block, with all those crinkly, hard-to-pin paper edges. Anita's amazing technique uses just one foundation piece and no pinning! Patches cut from templates are lightly glued in place with a fabric glue stick, then stitched and pressed. (Unlike other paper-piecing techniques, Anita's does not use oversized patches, so there's no trimming and less fabric waste.) The amazing part comes next: fold the paper on pre-printed dotted lines and stitch. When you open up the block, all the sections will match perfectly! More About the Author
When I was very young, so the story goes, my mother made a deal with me. I agreed to give up my baby blanket in exchange for a peek inside the Maple Avenue School. Supposedly I took one look at the children in Miss McCormick's kindergarten class and thrust my blankie away on the spot.
A few years later I spent my mornings watching I Love Lucy and my afternoons with Miss McCormick. Now I live in Manhattan, a few blocks from Lucy and Ricky's TV apartment. I make quilts and have written three books about the process.

I love this book. It is so great for a beginner that has not done any paper piecing and great for anyone that has not done paper piecing by strips. The instructions are very clear; there are pictures to show "how to" for each step. THe patterns are clearly marked with strip cut sizes and even have arrows to show best direct to sew each strip. There are cutting instructions and multiple patterns. Would recommend this book to anyone wanting to know how to work with foundation/paper piecing.

I found many of my favorite traditional blocks among the selections in the book. I've always wanted to paper piece Necktie blocks and Solomon's simplified pattern for it is very clever. Templates, rotary cutting information and great color illustrations are provided so I am very pleased. As a matter-of-fact, I'm working on a sampler quilt of all the blocks.
