5.0 out of 5 stars a powerful film
This film was shown as mid-day movie on a weekday when I was sick from work. Usually the movies shown in that particular timeslot are incredibly shocking and simply make you want to fall asleep.

3.0 out of 5 stars It Was Okay

I had bought this movie along with the DVD "Dying to be thin" which I found to be much more enjoyable to watch.

Perfect Body is about a girl athlete who was forced into the world of eating disorders. I found it disappointing that even though many people were saying how she was "too thin". The only thing different about her was the makeup on her face to...

This film was shown as mid-day movie on a weekday when I was sick from work. Usually the movies shown in that particular timeslot are incredibly shocking and simply make you want to fall asleep.

Convinced this was just another one of those movies I held very low expectations for this film. However, what started out as a boring afternoon in bed, turned into a compelling two hours that gripped me and drew me in. "Perfect Body" was no ordinary fill-in movie, but a beautifully crafted tale which scarily enough is very truthful to the ways of many teenagers in real life.

Andy is thrilled when she is given the chance to build from her talents as a gymnist and is set on the road towards the olympics. but her first training session starts off with every girl's nightmare: she is weighed infront of the whole class and critisised for being "overweight". the pressure of wanting to be the best overwhelmes Andy and she begins starving herself and exercising compulsively - convinced that this is the only way to achieve success. As her eating disorder worsens, it consumes Andy, and has an impact on her relationships with her boyfriend, friends and parents. Andy must stop punishing her body before it's too late to turn back the clock.

Amy Jo Johnson is simply captivating as Andy. She captures the wrath of her athletic alter-ego stunningly and puts on a totally believable performance. Throughout the film you can noticably see her character transform from a healthy, happy teenager to a physically sick teenager. Her skin becomes pale and dry and even her hair begins to fall out.

There are several gymnastic sequences as well which add as a bonus. The routines are beautifully filmed.

And obviously it is aimed to send a very important message to everyone: it doesn't matter how you look outside, so you shouldn't change youreself to fit in with the crowd.

At the end of the day, this is no ordinary drama about teenaged angst, but a reality check. This behaviour in teenaged girls is really happening. "Perfect Body" takes us through the long and painful journey of a girl who goes too far.

Excellent!

This review is from: Perfect Body (DVD)
this movie I saw years ago when it first aired on nbc, i think. this is a really good movie that lets you know how dangerous eating disorders are and the pressure society puts on young girls to be perfect. this movie really touched my heart, I felt amy's pain, it made me feel like it was happening to me. it's a really good movie to watch as a family. it shows all the signs that people with eating disorders have. it makes you more aware of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars worth watching, with a sad story, based on truth, February 17, 2005

this movie is really sad. I wouldn't want to be a celebrity or a professional athlete based on what I saw on this movie. It just shows how un sympathetic coaches and the higher above can be. The girl becomes bulemic/anerexic and this happens all the time. The body can't starve. Young girls don't understand this. I felt it was a good movie to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Body delivers a perfect 10, May 17, 2007

Welcome to Andie's world. A world of school, training and eating disorders. Andie Bradley is a high achiever who accels at anything she does. When she gets the chance to train with an Olympic coach and has the opportunity to go to the Olympics, she jumps at it. Only after her and her mother relocate to Seattle does the pressure begin. In the most humiliating moment of her life she's put on scale in front of the entire gym and told to lose weight. So she does. Only she couldn't stop once she started. Thus, begins her spiraling downwards into the devestating world of anoroxia and bulmia. This is very well made movie and highlights the stress and strain that female athelites feel and the pressure to be thin and perfect. This is not your average movie. The stress Andie feels is acurately portrayed and the pain of her parents is raw and real. This movie achieves its goal to tell a story in a thoughtful and compelling way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Body, July 4, 2006
This review is from: Perfect Body (DVD)
This is a typical movie dealing with the horrific disease, anorexia. Andy is a pefectly healthy girl with ambitions to become an olympic gymnist. She begins to reach for this goal, with the help of a new coach. He begins to humiliate all the girls about their weight. This causes Andy to become self conscious and she begins to starve herself and lose weight. She begins to notice the differences in herself, but feels unable to stop.
She must confront herself and get help before it's too late, but what about her dream?
This movie is very touching and has the effect of making you want to reach out and help these teens with disorders such as this.

I had bought this movie along with the DVD "Dying to be thin" which I found to be much more enjoyable to watch.

Perfect Body is about a girl athlete who was forced into the world of eating disorders. I found it disappointing that even though many people were saying how she was "too thin". The only thing different about her was the makeup on her face to make her appear gaunt and malnourished.

Overall the movie was okay but I could only watch it once.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Body (Eating Disorders), November 11, 2009
This review is from: Perfect Body (DVD)
I don't remember seeing this movie when it first came out. . but as soon as I heard about it, I looked it up on youtube. . I ended up buying it the next day.
Amy Jo Johnson does an excellent job as a high school teenager that becomes an olypmic contender and ends up having an eating disorder, that almost kills her.
Andie (Amy Jo Johnson) is very excited that she is finally training for the olypmics. While training, she meets a winner of the olypmics, Leslie Reynolds. The two becomes friends but are very competive with eachother. Andie is embrassed when the coach makes her get on a scale in front of everyone and is told that she is too fat. She starts doing her "own diet" where she is not really eating, until she is introduced to eating and then throwing up her food, thanks to Leslie. Andie goes on a downward sprial of being moody, being out of control, and being weak. She ends up almost killing herself, working so hard and not eating anything, she ends up in the hospital.
I recommend this movie to ANYONE. I love it, and it's definatly a favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars For what it was...., October 25, 2008
This review is from: Perfect Body (DVD)
This movie was perfect for young female gymnists to watch. It focuses on the pressures and stress of being in a competitive sport. I think the actress did very well in portraying a young girl with anorexia. This is a must see for everyone. Well done.
