I bought this, the second edition of Roe Gallo's self-published "Perfect Body" because it came highly recommended as an entry into a raw food lifestyle.

I am amazed by the fact that this book isn't more popular than it is. I'd never seen it in regular bookstores like Borders, and only stumbled upon it a few months ago in a health food store. Roe Gallo focuses on weight loss/health "techniques" the human species has used to stay lean and healthy for thousands of years, and she knows how to say things in a way that is encouraging and motivating. What she teaches is totally natural and makes complete sense. I lost weight 7 years ago, and have kept it off, by eating very much in the way she recommends (by eating more fruit and raw foods). I bought this book to learn more about fasting. I am actually writing my own weight loss book and plan to recommend this book in my own book. She is a fantastic teacher, very inspiring, and I hope this book will become more popular in the future, as her methods are not only good for the body, but they are good for the environment. She's helped people cure a multitude of diseases from Acne to Cancer. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, January 18, 2002

What a cool book! Not only does it give you the scientific underpinnings to change your perspective on your body's health & biological age, it gives you practical things to do that really make a difference in how you feel. Some of the recommendations were extremely helpful. Others will take me a bit longer to incorporate into my life, but I am working on it! I really love Roe Gallo's attitude and looks. What a great role model.

If you're looking to make a healthier change for the better in your life, I definitely recommend checking this book out.

4.0 out of 5 stars The simplest truths are hardest to believe, December 10, 2006
This review is from: Perfect Body: Beyond The Illusion (Paperback)
This book delivers a simple truth that most of us are just not willing to accept - we are killing ourselves one forkful at a time. Still, there may be a change coming and it won't be too soon. One only has to monitor the yahoo news these days to sense the shift in the awareness of the country to our growing crisis - obesity. In Perfect Body the author eschews the fad diet approach and gets down to the basics of what is nutritious for us. The rest is toxic, plain and simple. Don't mistake this book for a guide to a raw food or vegan life style, its purpose is to help people break the cycle of self-afflicted toxicity that is at the root many of the health issues that plague us, our families and friends. The book does cover a lot, moving from food, to exercise to positive thinking, and sometimes leaves the reader wanting a bit more depth. It's simple in style, however, the basic principles revealed in the book just make sense, and the numerous testimonials were evidence enough for me. The detoxification regimen and diet guidelines are very rigorous, and it's no wonder that many of the author's testimonials came to her program with serious health issues and few alternatives. Still, I adapted the basic principles to fit into my life and it worked. I lost weight, my cholesterol ratio improved by 50%, my energy is up and I feel great. Read it with an open mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true mind-body health book of practical wisdom and unique insight, January 16, 2008

Roe is an extraordinary thinker and caring teacher and she is proof of her teachings. She simply has more energy and fun than anyone I know, and I have known her for 14 years. In PB he demonstrates that real health is not just about what you eat and how athletic you are. No, it's about how your mind operates, how you think and act, keep fit and clean inside and out and how you live your total life. This book covers the 360o picture of total health, teaching the basis for critical health thinking from a physiological basis, boldly going to the ultimate extreme of normal, exuberantly vibrant, youthful health, the easy, simple and natural way. In embracing Roe's natural mind-body healthy lifestyle we set ourselves free to truly enjoy the ecstasy of living the way we were deigned to be. I, like Roe, have lived this way for over 2 decades, am glad she wrote this book, and she is my hero.

I bought this, the second edition of Roe Gallo's self-published "Perfect Body" because it came highly recommended as an entry into a raw food lifestyle.
Well, no. The book is actually a mishmash of many different disciplines and many different schools of thought. It's a machine gun effect, scattering ideas as bullets all over the place without satisfactorily scoring a bullseye or even hitting the target on any one. As far as using your brain, goal setting, psychology and keeping a positive attitude, Tony Robbins, Norman Vincent Peale and Zig Ziglar have done it much better. As far as exercise, physiology and anatomy, pick up any exercise magazine on the shelf. Or perhaps Bill Phillips "Body For Life". For nutrition, get the classic "Fit For Life" by Harvey and Marily Diamond, also proponents of the Natural Hygene lifestyle.
As far as I can tell Gallo has no medical credentials whatsoever, yet tells stories of people who, by following her advice in eating only organic fruits, uncooked vegetables and drinking only distilled water have cured themselves of Multiple Sclerosis, colitis, asthma, AIDS etc. Does it work? Possibly. But she backs up none of her statements with proof. With claims like that, I'd expect the back of the book to have footnotes galore, citing medical journals, etc. She spends at least 75 pages of the book listing testimonial after testimonial of these cures. Dangerous stuff, indeed. What Gallo proposes makes perfect sense, of course. Eat healthy food, drink plenty of water, cleanse your body and lose weight and feel great, but this book is unfocused, undocumented and insufficient in exploring the raw food lifestyle. Pass.
