I bought this to keep my 200 gallon pond free of ice this winter, as it said that it kept an entire 300 gallon pond of ice. Isn't actually the case; as the temperature goes down, it narrows down to a small hole, and it works best in conjunction with a pump. However, it appears to be extremely energy efficient, which is of course why it only keeps part of the pond open, so it's a very good trade-off. I'm in Wisconsin and we're starting off with a fairly cold and nasty winter, and it's keeping my little pond open for the birds and the critters beautifully. All in all, very happy I purchased it and definitely recommend.

This heater used very little electricity and kept my goldfish alive all winter. I am very impressed!

Long-lived Wonder for Small Ponds,

I purchased this pond de-icer from another supplier 4 years ago. I initially used it in a small pre-formed pond. It kept that pond almost completely ice free for two years. I since built a larger pond (appoximately 275 gallons). This de-icer is still working in that pond, but it only keeps a small area above the de-icer clear of ice in colder weather (10 degrees or below). I note that if debris such as leaves accumulates on the bottom around the de-icer it does not work as well.
I purchased a 250 watt heater from this same manufacturer and supplier last year. It didn't even last one year. I would strongly recommend this product over the other so long as the user has a smaller pond.

Didn't Work!,

I received my pond heater today. just a piece of plastic surrounding a heater element. Supposedly you just plug it in and it works. Mine does not. Doesn't heat up. Instructions are plug it in and put it in pond. I'm very disappointed - we are in a freeze and I ordered next day delivery and plugged it in. Piece of junk basically.

This heater lasted me two winters before it filled up with water and died on me. But for the money I thought it was worth it.

I purchased this item at the end of December because I downsized my pond to just under 300 gallons and I was afraid that the January cold may freeze it to the point that my goldfish wouldn't survive. I used the heater in a bucket full of water, as described in their instructions, to put a hole through the thin ice that had already formed on the top of the pond and then placed the heater in the bottom. It seemed to work fine for about three weeks until the real January cold hit. I would go out to the GFI that's next to the pond to make sure it was still getting electricity every morning and a couple of days ago I found that the GFI had tripped over night. When I attemted to reset it, it continued to trip. After a little troubleshooting I found that the pond heater had developed a short at the bottom of the pond. Now I have a frozen pond with a shorted out heater at the bottom along with 50 dying goldfish. If you want a reliable product and care about your fish, then don't purchase this product.

I bought this product a few months ago. Unfortunately, I just started using it now. It doesn't work. The unit itself freezes.... Now, I don't know how to contact K&H to return it. I think they sent me a defective product.

What do you mean by "Perfect Climate", "Pond Heater"? I want to warm the water up a little for my cold koi. Where's the turn up switch? Anyway, I suppose this product is only for locations where the water actually freezes and you need to keep it from doing so. Don't be fooled into thinking this has a temp control so you can do more than just keep the water from freezing over.

I really like the heater. I have used it submerged and floating. All you need to float it is a long screw that will fit the threads on the top. I found one laying around. I then cut a circular piece of styrofoam and put a hole in it. I layed it over the screw shaft and then put a plastic lilly pad over that. I cut the excess screw sticking out close to the lilly pad and covered it with the lilly pad flower. I used a very short piece of air tubing on the end of the screw closest to the lilly pad and stuck the stem of the flower into the tubing to hold it in place. It floats fine.Doesnt take much to float the heater. I cut the styrofoam smaller than the diameter of the lilly pad so you cant see it.
