Absolutely Stunning,

Emerging soon after Air and being a Parisian synth band hasn't been easy for Mellow. Greatly underappreciated, their stateside debut, "Another Mellow Spring" was either cast off as an Air wannabe, or simply ignored altogether. Ditto their excellent soundtrack for Roman Coppala's motion picture "CQ" (although the French band making a soundtrack for a Coppala probably didn't help matters much either...). Now, with "Perfect Colours" available only on import, it seems Mellow faces yet more obstacles in the road to respect(I almost certainly never would have heard of the release if it hadn't been for the BBC's "Blue Room"), and it's a damn shame. "Perfect Colours" is simply stunning, and should put to rest the "compAIRisons" to that other French band completely. More thoughtful, competent and well executed than their debut, the album should be on every "best of" list for the year. Period. "Drifting Out of Sight" is an absolute gorgeous masterpiece of high-psychedelica that could move me to tears. A must have.

That's right. Psychedelic cosmic pop. If you're looking for something to nicely fill the gap you desperately want to fill because there aren't enough Brothers In Sound, Beta Band and Air releases, this is for you. An adventurous blend of electronica and organic instrumentation, crafted into well-written and dynamic songs, yes, SONGS! It's a quaint Floydian 60s vibe in a 21st Century palette.
