Book Description

Perfect Dark September 22, 2005
The year is 2020: Corporations control everything. In the name of domination, these sprawling organizations have recruited their own military forces to fight clandestine battles against one another---a war fought in the boardrooms and won in the shadows, with the public none the wiser.
Ex--bounty hunter Joanna Dark has unwillingly seen the front lines of this war. Her run-in with dataDyne, the world's most powerful hypercorporation, has left her with a wound that only vengeance can heal. Daniel Carrington, the charismatic founder of the Carrington Institute, has been locked in an ongoing war with dataDyne for years and sees Joanna's deadly skills as the key to victory over their mutual enemy. But Joanna is young and lost, unable to accept her abilities as virtues or fully trust Carrington's intentions.
But when an explosive secret is unearthed---one that could finally bring down the threat of dataDyne once and for all---Joanna finds herself thrust back into the fight, one that brings her face to face with her past . . . and the forces shaping her future.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Greg Rucka is an acclaimed thriller novelist and commonly considered to be one of the "Big Three" writers at DC Comics.

From AudioFile

You don't have to play the Xbox 360 video game "Perfect Dark Zero" to enjoy this book even though the novel based on the game. Anyone can enjoy the story of a future in which five giant corporations control the world. Ex-bounty hunter Joanna Dark tries to bring down the worst of the bunch. The half of the book read by Orlagh Cassidy is superior to the parts read by Scott Sowers. Sowers isn't bad, but Cassidy is special, partly because of her ability to mimic accents. She does at least three flawlessly. The undercurrent of tension in her voice adds to the charged atmosphere. Rucka knows how to create a universe, and Cassidy makes it real. 4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Dark near close to perfect, December 8, 2005
This review is from: Perfect Dark: Initial Vector (Paperback)
I have been interested in the xbox 360 game for a while, so when I saw the book, I had to get. Well, I bought it, read it, and enjoyed it. The only problem that I had with the book was that I felt that some of the conflicts were solved too simply. Other than that, I am hoping for a continuation within the Perfect Dark universe. As for a side note, if you have not played the game yet, the book will reveal some spoilers.
