Pursuing Relationships God's Way,
By Julia m MAtson (A field of dreams, IA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Perfect Date: God's Only Answer for Finding True Love (Paperback)
"The Perfect Date" is a well thought out, well-written book by two people who truly desire to see those pursuing relationships to do it God's way. As a young lady who is waiting for God's time to bring me "the right gentleman", I found "The Perfect Date" to not only be a huge blessing to me, but very challenging also.
Living in a culture that promotes instant gratification and selfishness, dating appears reasonable and normative. After all, what harm can dating do? Isn't it just a harmless game - something that everyone else does? Sadly, many Christians have followed the culture's advice and have "Christianized" dating by putting few rules on the activity and encouraged young people to pursue dating. It is only when we step back from our preconceived notions about finding love and go to the Bible that we can find God's plan for finding true love. Throughout the book Joshua and Kerry Williams provide many scripture verses and references to show God does have a perfect plan for each of us in the area of relationships and its only when we rest and trust in Him that his perfect plan is made known. By sharing their own personal life experiences, Joshua and Kerry show in their book that being committed to God's way isn't always the easiest way, but as Christians we are to daily die to ourselves and live a life that pleases our heavenly father. Reading Joshua and Kerry's story of how God brought them together is truly a testament to their willingness to walk by faith and trust the Lord for their future mates. If you are ready for a refreshing, Biblical, God -honoring change to the dating game the world has to offer, read "The Perfect Date".

Agreeing to marry without even talking or meeting? I can imagine the never meeting part, but never talking? And exactly *how* is this Biblical? And how is this foundational to a lifelong, committed, godly marriage?
And to be honest, I'm very skeptical of any book written by young marrieds about marriage--which they obviously are from their photos. They haven't had the years of the ups and downs and real trials that most marriages go through. While I don't doubt this couples commitment to each other, I am pretty confident that they will come to a point in which they look at each other and say, "What was I thinking? This isn't what I signed up for? Who are you and who am I and why did we marry?" May they come to that place and grow through it, becoming closer, by God's grace. But honestly, advocating never talking before agreeing to marry is Biblical? Puh-leeze. |
