Grade 10 Up–This anthology serves up five separate love stories, connected by the device of a letter. In some, letters allow bad boys to show a more sensitive side. In others, misdirected letters form connections or provoke responses. Each story ends at the beginning of a new relationship. Asakura's art is different from other shoujo manga currently being published in English. The line work is not delicate, and the characters are cartoonlike. Reaction shots are rendered with crude simplicity. The addition of a lid crease depicts eyes as almost perfectly round. Nevertheless, the illustrations are appealing and support the gritty and realistic feel of the stories; Asakura is skilled at teasing out nuances of character in a limited time. While the rating is for 16 and up I can see younger readers enjoying the stories. Five romance stories dealing the subject of love letters, a common theme in many manga and anime series set in schools. The drawings are great and the stories are well thought out, a well balanced mixture of mystery and wit. Touching and fun.
