4.0 out of 5 stars A generous collection of mainly standards
This is a great CD, essential Roger. It's sort of an expanded version of his "Feelings" album. That said, DON'T buy it if you're expecting new material: the only new song you're going to get is a lovely duet with Roger's daughter Jessica, called "A Perfect Day," which also appears on Roger's "Now and Then" compilation. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not original hit recordings
Whittaker's voice is great, but a principal reason one buys a greatest hits album is to reminisce with the original recordings. These are not the original hit recordings. I wish buyers could be alerted to facts like this in the descriptions of albums. Anyway, I never listen to this cd as I'm always annoyed that I was tricked into buying it.

There are 4 of Roger's self-penned hits, and a generous offering of covers of 18 standards rounds out the album. The highlights, in my opinion: "Blueberry Hill," into which he puts all of the baritone hutzpah he can muster; "Beauty and the Beast," which I will take over Angela Lansbury's soundtrack version any day; and "Ol' Man River," which comes across as plaintive and melancholy as when the slave in the musical sang it. If you love a good crooner plying his craft in the background, and want to be able to sing along without having to listen to the album 30 times, then this is the album for you. If you want Roger's own hits, buy "Now and Then" or "Greatest Hits." If you want his new material, buy "Awakening," "Celebration," or "Moments in My Life." Happy listening!

3.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had Bought a Different Album, January 15, 2000
This review is from: Perfect Day (Audio CD)
A "young" listener, I grew up with Whittaker's Farewell album and had high hopes for this one. I wish I had simply bought the original Farewell album, though. Although his voice is excellent (no disappointment there), it is disconcerting to here him sing songs of a genre I don't associate him with. He loses some of the Hemingway-type masculinity on this album but makes a break into muzak. He's still great and maybe it does grow on you. For me, however, I still just skip to the songs that were on the Farewell album.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sorry - I retract my original statement, January 3, 2000

Sorry for my review of before. I was trying to make fun of my brother who hammered this CD. He was actually right on the mark....few greatest hits, cheesy toons. Here the WHOLE thing before you buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Major Disappointment !!!!, October 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Perfect Day (Audio CD)
I wanted a greatest hits album from this artist because his "classic" music reminds me of my dad. I feel that the title is misleading. This is an album of cheesily done broadway tunes with a SMALL sample of his greatest hits (2-3 of them). BOO / HISS.

To add insult to injury, I failed to buy this title at Amazon, so I paid too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply stupendous music., September 18, 1998

This is one of the most outstanding albums I've ever heard; certainly totally Roger Whittaker... his duet with his daughter, the first cut on the album, left me in tears; her voice blends totally with his and the emotion from both of them is palpable. The rest of the album is just as wonderful. I'm back today to order a gift CD of the same one.... Thank you Roger and thank you Amazon!!

Now that I really listened to this album I felt that it was an excellent comtemplation of great hits of the 'Master of Music,' good ole' Roger Whittaker. Sorry for my review of before. I was trying to take out my aggression on a genius like Roger Whittaker. Then I read my brother's review and saw the true light. He was actually right on the mark....many greatest hits, classic toons. Here a song and it will make you buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roger Whittaker ---Still one of the greats!, July 7, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Perfect Day (Audio CD)
I just did purchase "The Perfect Day" and was so pleased to listen to one of the best natural performers in this day and age. He has not lost any of the wonderful voice that endears him to his fans. A different styling was done on those songs which deserved it giving a fresh sound which proved very enjoyable. I was privileged to see him in three concerts in Atlanta. He is still one of my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can relate!, August 25, 2008
This review is from: Perfect Day (Audio CD)
If you are over 50, have ever had a daughter go into the world, and have listened to Roger for over 20 years; the first song on this album will
be a special journey. The rest of the album is a journey through many of his best work but I would pay 5 times the cost of any album he has ever sold for more duets with his daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Day, February 22, 2004
This review is from: Perfect Day (Audio CD)
.

"A Perfect Day" (Roger Whittaker & Jessica Whittaker, 1997 BMG Maxi-CD 74321 48419-2) is the English version of his song "Ein schoener Tag mit Dir" (Roger Whittaker & Aylin, Sept.©1995 BMG Maxi-CD 74321 30580-2).

This song is one of my favourites (because it's written by DIETER BOHLEN).
