The Perfect Read,
By
This review is from: The Perfect Dress (Paperback)
This is one of those books that was difficult to put down, wondering what new adventure or jam our heroine would find herself. I could really relate to some of the main character's capers, as I was a young woman at about the same time as she. I recommend this book to friends.

By Maura Moynihan "Maura" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Perfect Dress (Paperback)
Mary Jane Cole has written one of those books that you just want to read more. The characters are intriguing and the protagonist is so real that I became immersed in her life. Chapter by chapter the story develops with drama, travel, creativity, addiction, tennis, romance, betrayal and suspense. Baby boomers can reminisce to the time period of their earlier adult lives while reading The Perfect Dress. It's an awesome fast paced read!

Multi-topical Story,
By
This review is from: The Perfect Dress (Paperback)
Mary Jane Cole covered so many sensitive topics within this story: cultural adversity, addiction, grief, compulsive behaviors, trans-gendering. However, it is ultimately a poignant love story with a twist of mystery that rounds out this multi-topical fictional piece.

"The Perfect Dress" = the Perfect Book,
By Shakemyspeare "Jerry" (Nashville, TN, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Perfect Dress (Paperback)
This is the first work I have read by author Mary Jane Cole, and have become a dedicated fan of her writing as a result. Cole's writing is personable and refreshing; almost as if she were sitting on my patio telling me the story herself over cocktails. "The Perfect Dress" combines the story of an orphaned young girl and her journey into adulthood with a pleasant theme of '70's feminism tucked between the lines. Protagonist Mary Leigh Worth discovers herself through tragedy, failed love relationships, good friends, and the culmination of a creative passion. As these situations are introduced, Mary Leigh provides a detailed account of what she was wearing, how her selections worked together, and whether she designed and tailored them or not. As one who is as fashionable as a car tire, I appreciated and began looking forward to these divulgences. Needless to say, by story's end I felt a bit more equipped for my next shopping excursion. Cole brings her story to a brilliant conclusion, with elements of mystery and intrigue added for good measure. If one is looking for relief from all the corporate, "written to make a buck" generic offerings on current bookstore shelves, "The Perfect Dress" is a must read. I only wish more contemporary authors would take Mary Jane Cole's personable approach to their writings, and place efforts in telling a good story instead of outwriting each other with false insights and meaningless language. "The Perfect Dress" should be a welcomed addition to any reader's library.
