A beautiful and moving CD,
By Ev26st@aol.com (NYC, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perfect Flaw (Audio CD)
The perfect flaw is a recording that manages to capture melody that haunts the soul. Tim Story somehow finds a way through his music, to create a feeling of desolation and hope at the same time.It is the same intricate balance that at times feels both futuristic and nostalgic at the same time. But quite simply, whatever Tim is trying to do with his music, one thing always stands out. It is always "moving". "the perfect flaw"(tims strongest)along with his other recordings always seem to connect with the soul. It is at the core of the soul where tim's stories unfold and seem to take the listener on a journey that is at times sad and always emotionally fulfilling. I highly recomend this recording as it truly stands out in a mass market of otherwise faux new age cd's. In addition to other Tim Story solo cd's, also check out his companion recordings with Dwight Ashley. (tim with a twist)

Quiet but complex,

I love this album. In the true spirit of ambient although its not ambient. It is wonderful as background music but unlike much new age music it stands up to very careful listening. There are many subtle weavings of texture. Despite the apparent simplicity on first hearing the more you listen the more you'll hear. There is such depth that you can always find new things to fascinate and involve you each time you hear the album.

Tim Story is a master of minors,

Gorgeously haunting is the way to describe some of the pieces on this disc. Story has a gift with minors, avoiding the sometimes staid and sappy sound of generic piano/synthesizer music and reaching instead for a higher, altogether more melancholy and lonely sound that touches the soul in deep places. A progression on some of the work featured on earlier Story, like "Beguiled", this album is one of my favorites in my collection, much played and much appreciated. Story doesn't get much better than this, in my honest opinion.

The first time I heard Perfect Flaw was early in 1995. "broken alphabet" can start playing in your head all day--but you don't want it to stop. This very calming music, with a deepness that reaches the innermost feelings in the heart and soul, relaxes you and can give you a feeling of traquility like you've never felt before.

One of a kind,

Story's music is of its own world. Pure vision, pure integrity. As an artist, this is both his strength and his limitation -- you'll find Beguiled and Shadowplay pretty much of the same fabric. Of these Perfect Flaw is the most compelling, and it sets out a musical path that opens inner worlds and cuts to the quick.

Some of the Most Beautiful Music I have ever heard,
By
This review is from: Perfect Flaw (Audio CD)
This really is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. It is touching and moving without being sappy. This music sounds like love feels like. This music is perfect for romantic situations , but more than that , I give this album to people I simply care a great deal about knowing that it will touch them often and deeply.I bought a copy for my friend June to thank her for doing a favor for me . She thanked me and then set it down without playing it for several weeks . She leads a busy life . Then one day she called me to thank me again for Perfect Flaw : " Hey , you know that album you gave me ? It's BEAUTIFUL!" "Yes, June , I know ;that's why I gave it to you" Now YOU ,Dear Reader, should own you own copy of this awesome work.

One of the most important new age albums of the 90's,
By
This review is from: Perfect Flaw (Audio CD)
Let me simply put it this way: if you have never heard this album, and if you do not have this album in your collection, then you are musically deficient. This is one of those very rare albums that comes along about once in a decade. It cannot be pigeon-holed as new age music, because in my humble opinion, it is better than some of Philip Glass's best work. This is a life-changing album, in the sense that it will open many new doors into your consciousness when you listen to it; you will see relationships amid the complexities of your life that you never saw before, you will become more compassionate. It is, in my humble opinion, one of the most important new age albums of the 1990's. The only other album that I think may exceed it is Constance Demby's Aeterna.

Probably one of the best CD's to have for when you just need to be still and gather your thoughts.

Flawless asymmetry,
This review is from: Perfect Flaw (Audio CD)
This CD is one of those rare works that strikes the perfect balance between chaos and harmony, creating enough dissonance to hook the listener but not enough to offend any aesthetic sensibilities. Its sweet and fragile songs ("Sister of the Flood" and "The Color of Vowels," especially) contain that peculiar shade of tenderness that wrenches tears from even the most discerning listener. For those who love to ride a musical tide of emotion, "The Perfect Flaw" offers a liquid paradise of bittersweet relief.

This may be Tim Story's best.,

Tim Story's Perfect Flaw is even more haunting and wistful than his past works. The juxtaposition of oboe, cello and piano always make the music inviting but never detract from Tim's beautiful melodies.
