About the Author
J. Murray Elwood, the Legal Career Guru, has worked as a career coach with approximately 2,000 career changers over the past 15 years. Before entering private practice, he was Vice President of a professional career consulting firm where he successfully coached lawyers and corporate executives "in transition." Previously, he was Director of the Career Development office at Temple University School of Law where he was also an instructor in legal writing. Before that, Mr. Elwood had been Senior Editor for ALI-ABA, the American Law Institute. In addition to his law degree, he also holds additional graduate degres in counseling psychology and religious studies. Mr. Elwood lectures frequently and has presented legal writing workshops for both the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. In 1999 he offered a career discernment workshop at Notre Dame University. In addition to The Perfect Legal Resume, Mr. Elwood is the author of five published books.

As a current hiring committee member, I strongly encourage people to AVOID this book. I purchased this book as part of a research collection and was greatly dissapointed with the content. Although several of the reviews advocate the utility of this book (several of which were posted on the SAME day), the book itself presents nothing more than your standard run-of-the-mill resumes. Do yourself a favor--spend the $20 on a great cappuccino blend and spend a few hours making your own perfect legal resume!

I have to disagree with "Pedro" -- The Perfect Legal Resume was exactly what I needed for my recent (successfully concluded)job hunt. I'm a 50 year old lawyer, with previous careers in health care and journalism. What I gleaned from the examples in the book --and there are many, so I wasn't limited or left wanting-- and from his advice helped MY resume stand out from the others. And I'm not talking perfumed pink paper, a-la "Elle Woods" in "Legally Blond." Elwood's guidance helped me create a fresh, well-written, resume that the candidate screening committee found clear and attractive. And we all know how first impressions make a difference, whether it's before a jury or with a prospective employer. There's good, solid material in The Perfect Legal Resume.
