Editorial Reviews

“I loved this story. The characters came alive and their struggles became mine. The sex was hot and the historical details only added to the story.”
—Night Owl Reviews on An Introduction to Pleasure

“To whomever loves 19th century historical romance this is sure to become a series that you will want to read.”
—Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews on An Introduction to Pleasure

“This second book in Jess Michaels’ Mistress Matchmaker is even better than the first, if that is possible. […] This is a well-rounded, interesting historical that isn’t exactly tame and demure. I can’t wait to see who else comes under Vivien’s tutorage!”
—Night Owl Reviews on For Desire Alone

Book Description

The notorious Mistress Matchmaker is tired. Tired of parties, tired of lovers, tired of being her. Vivien decides to leave London behind and start a new life.
But before she goes, she must tie up some loose ends, and makes a list that includes a man she’s never been able to let go.
Benedict was broken when Vivien broke off their affair. When she comes back into his life, he isn’t certain of anything except their mutual desire.
But as Vivien moves closer to disappearing, they question if love might be a loose end that cannot be neatly tied up.

"If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with" could be a mantra for our heroine, Vivien, in this book. The book begins with a hot, steamy mmf menage to celebrate her birthday. During the menage she realizes that while her flesh is being pleased her heart is not in it and something is missing from her life. The author does an excellent job of turning what could have been construed as a harlot into a woman with many dimensions and giving the reader insight to see past her actions to the woman underneath. Vivien is a mistress and has been known as the mistress matchmaker. However, two of her matches involving her closest friends developed into marriage. It makes Vivien wonder if true love really exists and each time her mind conjures up images of her last protector, Benedict.

Benedict is a member of an aristocratic family with noble blood lines. He confessed his love for Vivien 3 years ago only to have her throw it back in his face and break off the relationship. He hasn't been able to forget Vivien or move on to another relationship even with the impassioned pleas of his brother and mother to get married to a suitable woman.

Vivien and Benedict are reunited at an event and Vivien finds herself unable to extend one last invitation to her bedchamber. Benedict accepts and the two are once again in a tempestuous affair. This time Vivien is determined to get Benedict out of her system, leave London, and begin her life afresh in another country unbeknownst to Benedict. But--true love---changes many plans. Despite Benedict's brother asking her to leave his brother so that he won't be disregarded by society and disowned by his family. Vivien realizes that she loves him and being with him would be to his detriment.

Jess Michaels does it again folks! This book was by far my favorite out of the series. Vivien has been a character in each book. She has been someone you want to find happiness and above all I really wanted to know more about her . How she became a mistress matchmaker?

In Vivien's story you learn so much about her, things I don't think the reader will expect. A good surprise. She has a past and seeks closure. She also has things she wishes to do before leaving the business for good.

And Benedict is the man of all men. He's charming, handsome, and address Vivien. They are the perfect couple. Why it took so long for them to realize it, well you will have to read to find out.

I really enjoyed reading Her Perfect Match. We finally get to read Vivian's story! I'll try very hard to not give anything away in this review (phew, this is going to be difficult). :)

The opening drew the reader right into the action and excitement of Vivian's world, but also set-up the inciting incident that would carry us through the rest of the book. From the start, I wanted to know what was so special about Benedict that Vivian would be thinking about him at time such as [in the opening]. I loved the push-and-pull between them and rooted for them right from the start. The twist about 60% into the book had me reading with my mouth opened for a good five minutes. It was brilliant and completely understandable given the circumstances. And of course, the ending was "aww"-inducing and heart-warming, even if it was a little rushed.

There are a few nit-picky things that threw me off just a bit. I mentioned earlier that I wanted to know what was so special about Benedict -- I do think that question could have been developed a little more. I never got a truly satisfactory answer to that question beyond "they loved each other." And the reveal for why the couple split up in the first place had almost no foreshadowing and probably should have come earlier than 80% into the book. The dialogue was appropriately formal (the book is set in the Regency period after all), but this formality carried through to the bedroom scenes. I found this level of formality, especially between these two characters given their background and history, just a tad too much.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Her Perfect Match and cannot wait for the next book from Jess Michaels!

After a glorious 10-year career as London's premier mistress and mistress matchmaker, Vivien Manning has finally met her match. In truth, Vivien met him three years before -- in an arrangement that evolved into something that Vivien was unprepared for and so she let him go. Having seen two of her closest friends successfully matched and settled with their husbands, Vivien is beginning to consider settling her own affairs and finally retiring, but, first, she must attend to some "Loose Ends" -- one of which is Benedict Greystone, the man who came close to stealing her heart three years ago.

As a gentleman and the brother of an Earl, Benedict knows it his duty to marry well and elevate his family's position and fortune. He has accepted that, this Season, he will open himself up to introductions and matches made by his mother, brother and sister-in-law, but Benedict knows that any marriage that will result from said matchmaking will never be a love match, because he had surrendered his heart three years ago to Vivien, a woman entirely unsuitable for Benedict according to society's standards but is his perfect match as his heart dictates.

It surprises Benedict that, after three years of separation, Vivien approaches him at a party with an invitation: be with her and not just for one night. Vivien had steeled herself for this second onslaught and meant to distance her heart from the matter -- seeing Benedict as nothing but a loose end -- but, at the first touch, the first kiss, Vivien realizes (too late) that Benedict has always been always been and will always be something more to her.

When your primary occupation is matching mistresses and protectors, the most obvious question would be: is there a match for the mistress matchmaker?
