2.0 out of 5 stars I found some useful truths within.
I don't usually write book reviews, but in this case I feel compelled to do so. I do not doubt that the author is very knowledgeable. I found precious gems in this book, particulary the mantras for conscious astral projection and dream recall.

However, there seems to be an overwhelming need on the part of Samael Aun Weor to place ALL people into one of two camps...

5.0 out of 5 stars There Are Two Ways, September 5, 2002
By
As a long-time investigator of many different spiritual teachings, I have been exposed to just about every concept and idea one can imagine. Through out the world there are so many "rules" and "laws" and "unshakable" doctrines, it is near impossible for any seeker to find out just what is the truth. That coupled with the Doubt and Cynicism that characterizes the Western mind makes it an unmistakable miracle when anyone finds something that is actually True. There are so many false teachers and false teachings; there are so many books and so many schools: how does anyone find anything and stick to it?

The truth is, I have seen everyone I know (including myself) go from school to school, from teaching to teaching and from idea to idea, always looking for something more interesting, something more true to what I believe to be true: and THAT is the catch: I finally figured it out: I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LOOKING FOR WHAT I LIKE. The problem is, what I like is what has always gotten me into trouble.

It's as if I have been trying to fix the problem with the problem. Honestly speaking, since I began looking for spiritual truth, and real experiences, I have been running around and around in the same dumb circles, precisely because I never changed MYSELF. Changing ideas and schools was really my way of avoiding changing. And those times when I fanatically fought for a school or a belief, I was fighting to protect what made me feel like ME.

What this book helped me to see is that there are in truth only Two Ways in life. There is the way to change for the better, and there is the way to change for the worse. The problem is, most people only want to take the easy, pleasant, desire-fulfilling way (which, naturally, is the way to change for the worse: because we become more lazy, more fanatical, more full of ourselves, etc.). The way to change for the better is painful precisely because the old me must die.

He says in this book that there is one path to reunite with God. It's true: but that path goes in two directions: towards Him, and away from Him. If we follow our minds, our desires, our habits, our whispering thoughts, they will take us only deeper into suffering. The path to Him is the path of INTUITION and comes from the heart. It is the heart that knows the Truth simply because it is true. It is the mind that sows doubt. Be aware, and read this book carefully. It is not as simple as it seems.

5.0 out of 5 stars What is necessary to awaken positively?, April 8, 2002
First published in 1950, this book was the first public revelation of the essential secret knowledge of every mystical tradition. Samael Aun Weor is direct and clear in his explanation of the practices necessary to awaken the consciousness POSITIVELY. Few know that everything in nature is a polarity, thus many who believe they are awakening positively are awakening negatively. Few know that most spiritual and mystical traditions have lost the most essential tools to lead their disciples to their own direct personal experience of the divine. Few know that many schools now lead their disciples (knowingly or unknowingly) into grave errors. This book clarifies and restores the knowledge contained in every school, lodge, religion and doctrine, outlining the underlying knowledge that all traditions spring from. An absolutely essential book for anyone who aspires to rise above the mire of the common and vulgar mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completely Misunderstood and Underestimated, August 10, 2003
Theories and beliefs abound like weeds, we all know this. What is the point of reading another one? In truth, there is no point. That is why this book deserves all the praise in the world. It has nothing to do with theory, but rather with practical life. Nothing is more practical than sex, for it is the universal epicenter. Samael Aun Weor was hated by many occultist because he unveiled what was veiled. Occultism's Great Arcanum is Sex, and the secret of the initates is Love. This book is authentic Rosicrucian Occultism.

The Perfect Matrimony was the first book I read to make any sense of life's sexual issues. So many people today read the scriptures with disdain because society does not teach now to understand them. This is the first book that actually teaches one how to understand the so-called "antiquated" sexual conduct outlined in every religion. Society's utter disregard with the sacred Holy Cross of Man and Woman is more than ample evidence to prove that we do not understand anything about sex. The Perfect Matrimony is direct opposition with both modern religion and the materialistic philosophy that has engendered so much fanatical asceticism and hedonism. This book is not about locking sex up into a concept ("only for procreation") nor is it about pleasure ("have sex with everyone"), but rather it is about comprehending sex. It turns out this is something very difficult. How can we be "born again" if we do not first "die;" how can we be "born again" if we do not understand sex? How can anything be born without sex? What exactly is Jesus telling Nicodemus? The answers are in this book!

The author wrote what he experienced, and simply gives the methods to confirm what he wrote. It is up to the reader if he or she wishes to take up those methods. But, to the one who reads this book, let it be known that you will not really understand any of it until you have begun to live it. Spending time with theories and making judgments is something we must end; it makes no sense for someone who has not begun these exercises to make any comments on it.

This book is not about flattery, nor is it is not about gaining occult powers. If you are into mysticism and occultism just because it is different and you like the idea of magic powers or occult conspiracies, then waste time somewhere else. This book is just the simple truth, and the truth is harsh. If you are not ready to look at yourself and your life honestly, then go elsewhere. The Perfect Matrimony was written for the person looking for the nothing but the truth, something anterior to our opinions, our family, culture, our particular esoteric society, sect or school. It has nothing to do with the number of rare volumes on our book self, nor the number of years we have spent memorizing them. If you are honestly looking for the Absolute, if you are done wasting time in fascinating theory, if you have finally realized that even the most beautiful theory and good intentions mean nothing, if you would rather die than to remain in ignorance, then maybe this book is for you. If you are like a butterfly, hopping from flower to flower, from school to school, from theory to theory, if you are a curious cat, looking to for a new doctrine to explore and talk about, then do not read this book, as it will only cause great harm.

Patience and practice will open the doors of superior observation and then this book is no longer theory, but a living reality. This book changed my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gnosis & The Perfect Matrimony, February 20, 2006
Gnosis is the precise science to free the soul from suffering. Gnosis has been expressed in countless forms through all the world's major religions, and never has it been absent except in the eyes of its multiple interpretations and adulterations... otherwise, by the uninitiated. It is for this reason that religions have ceased to serve their purpose, which is to teach those souls longing for the Truth how to achieve the very purpose of their existence: the complete Self-Realization of the Being.

This timeless and sacred knowledge is Universal, and therefore it is not limited to any sphere of conceptual theory or belief. It is direct experiential knowledge, that one acquires through oneself, which is not a matter of believing or "imagining," but of performing the necessary works. "Know the Truth, and the Truth shall set you free."

This book is the complete unveiling of the Key to unlocking the greatest of these Mysteries, and because of its audicity to detail the most controversial of all issues, the Mysteries of Sex, it has been highly contentious to many individuals who consider the sexual act purely as an animal function while ignoring its Divine Purpose. Therefore, after its first publication in 1950, the Catholic Church sought to have the author arrested... and they succeeded. However, this book sprouted the universal Gnostic Movement, inspiring millions to work towards the Self-Realization of the Being... as well as re-establishing the long lost heritage of the Gnostic Church on the face of the earth.

Within this book is the precise Science that the Soul must harness in order to reunite with the Divinity, Which has been portrayed by countless religions, all in diverse forms. Many Masters have incarnated The Christ, Which is not individual, but Universal Cosmic Entity: Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Moses, Abraham, Isaac, etc., etc. The Christ is One and yet Many, which is why it is said, "For all are one in Christ Jesus." (For Yeshua means Saviour).

From the Author himself: "We have written this book with broad clarity, we have unveiled what was veiled. Now, whosoever wants to Self-realize in depth can rightly do so. Behold, here is the guide, here is the complete teaching.

"We aspire towards only one thing, only one goal, only one objective: Christification.

"It is necessary for each human being to Christify himself. It is necessary to incarnate the Christ.

"In this book we have lifted the veil of the Christic Mysteries. We have explained what the Christ-principle is. We have invited all human beings to follow the Path of the Perfect Matrimony in order to attain Christification."

5.0 out of 5 stars From a couple's perspective..., November 4, 2004
By
My wife and I consult this book often.

It is important to us because it treats sexuality and the sexual act in a way that strikes us as both scientific and spiritual at the same time.

Samael Aun Weor offers a unique perspective on Tantrism as a means of spiritual development. He writes clearly and explains in practical terms about the potency of our sexual energies and how they can nourish or starve our soul life. His book also contains a handful of invigorating "esoteric" exercises which certainly stimulate the soul and help to revitalize the inner life (exercises such as mantras, prayers, and even instructions on how to construct a "sacred pentagram").

Since reading this book, my wife and I now share a very different perspective on the role and sacredness of the sexual act, which continues to bring us closer together both in our life goals and in our hearts.

We sympathize with the reviewers of this book who are being criticized for writing negative reviews for other books on the topic of Tantrism, because, as far as we know, there are no other books which treat Tantrism in even remotely this way (except those by the same author).

Sex for my wife and I is no longer an endeavour only for pleasure or the moment of orgasm. This book has helped us to learn how to treat our sexual energies in a way that resonates with us as much more decent, scientific, and, above all, loving than we knew before. And we are grateful for it.

2.0 out of 5 stars I found some useful truths within., October 29, 2002

I don't usually write book reviews, but in this case I feel compelled to do so. I do not doubt that the author is very knowledgeable. I found precious gems in this book, particulary the mantras for conscious astral projection and dream recall.

However, there seems to be an overwhelming need on the part of Samael Aun Weor to place ALL people into one of two camps. Either you are a white magician or a black magician. Either you practice sexual magic (in which case you are a white magician) or you do not (in which case you dwell in darkness with no hope of attaining true enlightenment, clairvoyance, adepthood, etc.).

Throughout the book surfaced an undeniably threatening tone and repetetive emphasis of points. The author warns of dreadful consequences for anyone rejecting the path of "The Perfect Matrimony." It's as if the author is trying to get the reader to see things from his perspective only, going so far as to suggest the cessation of reading any other esoteric literature.

Contradictions abound.

I did find some truth in what Samael Aun Weor has recorded in this book, and while I found keys to conscious astral projection that seem to work for me, I did not find THE KEY to my PERSONAL SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT. That is found within.

5.0 out of 5 stars The next level of Occultism, December 26, 2004
After spending many years investigating religions, traditions, world cultures, philosophies, esoteric orders and societies etc, Samael Aun Weor (1917-1977) was prompted to reveal to the public all of his findings and personal experiences into what was to become his first book, The Perfect Matrimony. This publication turned out to be so contraversial that he was arrested!...this was mainly due to his boldness in revealing the mysteries of sex.

He talks about almost every aspect of esoterism, mysticism, occultism etc. spanning from the East to the West and from the ancient to the modern. Never before has so much light been shed on the profound mysteries of "the path" and "the great work" than in this book.

Given thoughout this mastertext are dozens of practical tools and keys one can utlize and perform.

This wonderful edition from Thelema Press at last finally does justice to this essential map and guide of a book, as it is full of fantastic pictures and diagrams, it also contains a glossary and comprehensive index.

-As a seeker of truth and esoteric knowledge it is indispensible for one to be familiar with this author. The Perfect Matrimony is the foundation stone which all things are based there-after.

4.0 out of 5 stars Absolutism?, September 2, 2005
Most reviews for this author are written by followers. I always find it hard to swallow the 'fantasy' that so many people dream up. I have no problem with the reality I live in, so find alleged dimensions all very fanciful and extremely delusional. If you can put aside the dross and learn from the sections based in reality, then this is a good book for a unique perspective, which should only ever enhance the rationale of your thinking. As all zealots are prone to doing, our author declares his way the only way and no doubt his poor deluded followers will claim that I will be subject to all sorts of terrors in alternative hells or heavens depending on the level of your madness. Ask any crank about 'jin' states or aliens and the insanity states with fever. If you can accept the fact that bad things happen because of our own actions or inactions, then no delusions of reality are required. Get this book as a tool to open the door to great sex and love with your partner. I believe there are many sections of great virtue to the astute reader. I would say the same of the bible. All of this authors works can be downloaded for free over the internet in pdf format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved My Life, August 3, 2007
This review is from: The Perfect Matrimony: The Door to Enter into Initiation / Tantra and Sexual Alchemy Unveiled (Timeless Gnostic Wisdom) (Perfect Paperback)
This book is basically a complete rewrite of everything you have ever learned about religion or spirituality. This author showed me that everything I believed and had been told about religion was very incomplete. I was interested in all religions and in mythology, and suspected there was a universal connection between them all, but this author is the only one to show definitively what that connection is.

I have been studying this book for over fifteen years (in previous editions). At first, I did not like it. I thought that the author was too intense, direct, even condemning. But somehow the message of the book kept coming up in my mind, and even though I put the book away (or threw it away) several times, I came back to it. Now, I find the author to be intensely compassionate, very clear and direct, and the best friend I have had. I say best friend because only those who are completely honest with us - painfully honest - are those who are truly concerned for our well-being. Few will tell us like it is. This book does that, and even though it took me a long time to realize it, (and even though at times I hated him for it) the author has done me more good than any person I have known. I have no doubt that had I continued behaving as I was before taking this teaching seriously, I would already be dead. My gratitude is immeasurable.

One key aspect of the wisdom emphasized in this book - and a likely cause for the intense derision it attracts - is the long suppressed fact that you do not need a church or a temple to know the divine personally. In fact, you do not need any group or "master" other than the one that resides within. I have long-suspected that to be true (and long suspected religions to be corrupted by greed and power) and from my own experience, based on the teachings in this book, I can affirm that the author is speaking the truth. It is sad that so many fearful people attack this author and his students, labeling them as a "cult" - when in fact this teaching is 100% anti-cult. In all the years I have been practicing the teachings presented by Samael Aun Weor, I have never had a "cult" experience, such as I had previously with many groups I will not name. On the contrary, the few Gnostic students I have met have been very intelligent, compassionate and grounded people.

This new edition from Thelema Press is beautiful. I have several editions by several publishers (all of the others are out of print). This is the best one of all, and I even saw it in a local bookstore.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Great Arcanum...UNVEILED!, November 11, 2002
By
RX (United States) - See all my reviews
This book was first published in 1950. It is the first book to openly expose THE GREAT ARCANUM AZF in explicit detail and remains to be the most in depth, direct treatise on the said subject. The subjects that this book treats are very serious matters, pertaining to the occult laws and means of awakening consciousness. It is truley the handbook for the THEURGIST, the adept of the right hand path... This book banishes many misconceptions of occultism, and describes the differences in the practices and processes of Theurgy versus Goetia. It is not the fancy grimoire that the intellect of our culture wants to get tangled up in, it is the truth, from the consciousness--simple, explicit, and practicle.
This book is the manual to teach the current humanoid robot how to forge the TO SOMA HELIAKON, the MERCABAH, The KUNDALINI, The BARK OF RA, the CLOUD OF MYSTERY, The ELIXER OF LONG LIFE...or under whatever name a culture can use to explain that which is the vehicle of Reality...the process to reach the great liberation...
We, humanity, are not self-realized. The path to perfection is not easy, the Sufi's call it: the Path of the Razor's Edge...
This book is the key for us, endarkened humanity, to bring light into our darkness.
