5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK GIVES OUT THE COLOR NUMBERS!
I have looked at a lot of home decorating books for help with my paint colors. Many have lovely photographs, but not a one of them gives you the paint color numbers that you see on the walls of the photographed rooms, EXCEPT THIS ONE. I couldn't believe it. I was still nervous going into the paint phase, not knowing whether the colors would look as good on my walls as...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This book was a disappointment to me. Ms. Krims is certainly talented--but in a sort of loud and juvenile way, at least for my tastes. My wife said it best, after flipping through the book: This looks like what you do when you are in college, trying to disguise an ugly room. The book lacks subtlety. Her color palettes for the most part are too loud for my tastes--and...

I was still nervous going into the paint phase, not knowing whether the colors would look as good on my walls as they do in the book. Well, let me tell you, they look even better! I am as pleased as punch. If you don't want to look through paint chips, try this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, October 6, 2004

This book was a disappointment to me. Ms. Krims is certainly talented--but in a sort of loud and juvenile way, at least for my tastes. My wife said it best, after flipping through the book: This looks like what you do when you are in college, trying to disguise an ugly room. The book lacks subtlety. Her color palettes for the most part are too loud for my tastes--and I like color (I have a mango kitchen and apple green office). I agree with my wife: most of her color schemes would work best to disguise an ugly space or to distract the viewer from cheap furniture or some other bad feature in the room. I can't imagine using many of her color palettes in designing a room with great architectural features or a room that will be filled with beautiful furniture. Also, if you are looking for theory, this book has scant if any of it. This was not what I was looking for.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Bold Color Palette, April 2, 2004
By A Customer
I just returned this book because I thought the colors were too bold, garish in some cases. For example, imagine a combination of black, salmon pink, and pistachio green. If you are daring this book could work for you. But if you are an all-white-wall person like me, just branching out, I think you better pick another book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Book!, January 8, 2004
By A Customer
I am one of those people who love home decorating, design magazines, TV shows and books. I always seem to get more helpful information and ideas from the magazines than I do from the books that I've read. But then I read this book.
This book is not just georgous photographs, but it is actually is packed with very practical content that I have been able to use with huge success. I feel like I can confidentely choose paint colors and put together a room. My rooms look amazing and I am very gratified. The colors feel very rich, and are not old fashioned or boring. While reading the book, I was constantly having "ahaa" experiences. I felt empowered to go for it. I felt like, "Now I get it. I can do this". I tend to be very picky about decorating. I don't want any loose ends, or lingering doubts about how I decorated a room, or whether the paint color is right or not. Using this book allowed me to feel as if I had "nailed it" in every room that I redid. I love it and recommend it highly! I bought five copies and have already given all away to friends who have bought houses or moved recently...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Sumptuous Colors, January 9, 2004
By A Customer
This book was the answer to all of my paint color needs/questions. It's such a waste of time to sift through all the paint chips in the paint store when you can simply use this book. It has, for me, become a "holy grail," listing paint colors that have worked in virtually every room in my house. After painting two rooms, with the help of this book, I felt that I didn't need to worry about choosing paint colors for my unpainted rooms. I trusted from the success of my two freshly painted rooms, that the colors in this book would work.
AND BOY DID THESE COLORS LOOK SUMPTUOUS!
I wish that I could include photos in this review, because words simply cannot describe how beautifully my home turned out. Thank you Bonnie Krims! If you don't want to waste any more of your time laboring over paint chips, try this book. You won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vibrantly Colored Rooms, February 3, 2006
This book has good, clear photos and include the paint brand (Glidden, Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams) and color number. Always helpful when you are trying to match colors. Most of the rooms are very vibrant in color and the rooms are decorated in a mostly traditional style. Very nice book if you like vibrant colors, but my taste leans to a more subdued color palette.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, November 24, 2003

Linda (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
I am one of those people who had all white walls in their home until I met Bonnie Krims and the Perfect Palette for Painting Rooms. This book is a must for those of us who get frozen at the idea of committing to a single color for a room and trying out different decorating ideas. I've already transformed rooms in my home and the results are nothing short of spectacular.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Pathetic to Perfect, November 24, 2003
By A Customer
Bonnie Krims has the eye of a fine artist and the writing ability of a gifted writer. Moreover, she has a practical and sensible approach to decorating that is highly user-friendly. Thus, her book is not only beautiful to behold and engaging to read, but also enormously helpful to those of us who lack a flair for decorating. With the help of this book, my husband and I took our seaside home from a pallid and unexciting place to eat and sleep, to a vivid and fun home to live in. We can't recommend this book highly enough. It is a true winner!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Book!, February 24, 2004
By A Customer
My wife and I found this book very helpful in choosing colors for our house. We didn't go with any of the combinations in the book, but we were able to pick the color for the house and then came up with our own trim color. The book helped to clarify the process and inspired us to make the right choices.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book empowered me to take greater risks with color, November 10, 2003
By A Customer
Anyone who looks at this book will see immediately how beautiful it is. But, for me, this book is much more. I feel that it elevates this genre of book to a new level. The rooms, the paint colors, the text and engaging quotes are a pleasure to the senses. It is clearly well designed and the color is exceptional. But even more importantly, this book empowered me to take greater risks with color. I do not see myself as a particularly creative person. Fear of choosing the wrong paint colors has been enough to keep me from incorporating my favorite colors into my home. I see fantastic color in friends homes and wish that my own home looked as interesting with the use of color. Reading and looking through this book gave me a heightened sense of my own color preferences and even my own sense of creativity. I have taken the leap into the world of color and am deeply satisfied with the results in my home and within myself. Without sounding too corny, I believe that this book changed me. I grew as a person and have acquired a new appreciation for what color has brought to my life.
