Book Description

December 11, 1995
When librarian Letty's rich Uncle Charlie leaves her a major sports-goods business, Joel Blackstone grudgingly sets out to show her the ropes. But the sensual curves under Letty's navy-blue suit and the unabashed desire in her innocent eyes leave him longing for a more personal kind of merger.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

With bold style and a wicked sense of humor Krentz ( Sweet Fortune ) tells the story of Letty Thornquist, an Indiana librarian who heads for Seattle to run the sporting equipment company she has inherited. This threatens the plans of Thornquist Gear's CEO Joel Blackstone, who made the firm a success and plans to take over another company owned by an old and dangerous enemy. Joel tries to undermine Letty's influence; but, calm and steadfastly staying at the helm, Letty discovers his tricks and finds ways to improve the company's line. After Joel and Letty's new working relationship moves out of the office, she even fine-tunes his plan for revenge. Toss in a gaggle of vividly drawn minor characters--including Letty's former fiance, the pompous professor Philip Dixon, who arrives in Seattle shod in wingtips and claims that he should run Thornquist Gear--and it adds up to entertaining contemporary romance. Letty's stereotypical librarian background is a letdown, but when Krentz sharpens her claws on business professors and prenatal classes for yuppie mommies, she's in top form.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have to Love JAK's writing style..., June 16, 2005
This review is from: Perfect Partners (Paperback)
JAK has a unique writing style that I absolutely love! It just seems to me people either love her or hate her! I grab her books wherever I can find them, and they stay on my keeper shelf labeled: "Comfort Books." Her hero's are very "Alpha," and her heroines just hysterical! Joel has built the heroine's Uncle's company from the Ground floor and has arranged to buy him out, but before he can, Uncle Charlie dies and has willed his company to his midwestern librarian niece Letty. She feels this is exactly the sort of change her life needs. Joel's outraged but stuck with Letty who is serious about her new position in the sporting good company. Meanwhile he's in the middle of a revenge plot against an old adversary and doesn't want Letty to stand in the way. They have a bickering attraction to one another in pure JAK style. They do address each other as Mr. Blackstone and Ms. Thornquist occasionally, as another reviewer complained about. It's not that JAK is in the "Dark Ages." It's all part of the humorous struggle between the two. Granted some of these books do date back over ten years. Along the way is Letty's stubborn ex-fiancé who just adds more humor to the tale. This is one of my favorite JAK's. Keep in mind; it's just fun fiction! I'll even admit that I might slap a restraining order on some of her hero's if it were real life.

So you know where my taste lie, it might help further to know that some of my favorite authors are Julie Garwood, Amanda Quick (a.k.a. Jayne Ann Krentz), Gaelen Foley, Lavyrle Spencer, Dorothy Garlock, Linda Howard, Christine Feehan, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kinley MacGregor, Susan Anderson, Rebecca York, Lauren Bach, Nora Roberts, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, and Karen Robards. Just to name a few...Hope this is helpful.

I like reading about smart intelligent women and intelligent men. The plot was very realistic also. I also love happy endings and this was a story with one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, October 17, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Perfect Partners (Paperback)
Joel and Letty were witty and wonderful. This book, like all Ms. Krentz's, has a mix of romance, humor, and family. If you like witty dialog and well-drawn charactors, you will love this book. Almost as good as her book Wildest Dreams, which is #1 in my mind and heart.
