Product Description

Making pickles is now much simpler with this home fermenting kit. The Perfect Pickler® Jar Top Fermentor System (JTFS) XL makes large batch recipes using a variety of herbs and spices - both traditional and the latest artisanal wonders. The JTFS-XL threads onto a variety of large jars - from 1 gallon to 5 gallons. Uses a lid size 120mm. Watch the bubbly fun inside the jar as veggies transform into pickles. After fermenting is complete - in just a few days - thread on a solid lid and refrigerate. That's it! There is no cooking or boiling, no added culture starters required; just salt, water, the recipe and your jar. This style of pickling is timeless, known as brine or lacto-fermentation to produce probiotic-rich pickles. The recipe ingredients are placed in a light saltwater solution. The kit quickly attaches and seals out air, but allows gases to escape during fermentation. Another big plus, no fermenting odors! The kit includes a four-part lid assembly, 1/4 pound premium Celtic Sea Salt®, our cook booklet with oodles of signature recipes, and our new DVD to introduce you to the world of lacto-fermentation with extra video recipes. First the picture is not true to what one receives. There is only the top that goes on the jar. There is only a small pamplet that explains how one should ferment when getting started. The double chamber that fits upon the top is made out of very thin and cheap plastic. Have been fermenting for 5 years now and think this type of jar fermenter is not as good as the one loop jar fermenter. One can get the one loop fermenter,the top, and the jar for close to the same price as this top and cup. Also think the cup is a waste of space in the jar when one can buy the glass topper that will hold the product under the liquid that allows more product in the jar. I recommend each who would like to learn fermenting to do your research as there are many on UTube who are calling their product fermenting but they are only "souring" their product. One needs to ferment at least 3 weeks up to 6 weeks depending on the types of vegtables and 12 weeks when fermenting meats to achieve the real benefits of all the bacteria's that is needed for this type of product. The main reason fermenting is a great health product is because of the good bacteria's that must be created to break down the celulose of the vegtable as to make it digestable. Then it will benefit your gut system. If one has left out this alotted time all the stages are not complete and one is not getting the true benefit of fermenting the healthy types of bacteria strains. There are over ten strains that must have their time to be created.There is what is called "souring" which only comes from less than a week for the product being in the jar, then there is "pickling", which comes from vinegar added to the product and or canning it for at least 15 min in water bath, (heat treating).Read more ›

As others told - cheap plastic, very thin, so thin that it is almost impossible to lock the jar with out air coming in. The rubber ring does not hep as it ih thin as well. Before this purchase we used 1/2G jar with a nice reliable lid. How is it possible to sell such a stuff? We usually do it together with my wife - she fix the jar and I do a titanic efforts to screw the lid. But this just a half of the problem - the worst part is to unscrew it! We bought 2 lisd - both the same. Well better to avoid buying this lids

I have been timid to try the fermentation of cabbage for the digestive enzymes. I didn't want to spoil food and this made the process so much easier and gave me confidence to actually eat what I fermented. I had no problem with spoilage.

I bought this off their website, mine came with the jar but not the cd. I'm guessing this has been switched out. I only used the jar it came with once, I like the wide mouth mason jars better. I felt it was quite a bit over priced for what you get. The best thing about the kit is the booklet. I have found this very valuable. This is my go to, and the recipes so far are wonderful. My favorite is the Salsa Starter, delicious. On the topper, I found I like the other type better also. It comes with a toggle top inside the main one, and I find it dries out better. This type water sits in it for quite a while. All in all I'm glad I bought it if not for the booklet alone, though a very expensive booklet, you'll not need to look for to many other resources unless you just want to.

I bought both the small & large size of the Perfect Pickler for my husband. He has used the small size to make several batches of sauerkraut which came out great. He hasn't used this size yet, but I'm sure it works the same. He plans to use it later in the season when we have our own cabbage from the garden.
