Perfect Pierogi Recipes is my first book and contains family pierogi recipes and collected recipes that have been tested in my kitchen and by my family.  I enjoy both traditional and contemporary pierogi.  You'll find both types of recipes in this book.   The book was very much a labor of love and I hope you enjoy the recipes.

I'm a big fan of pierogi. I've picked up this book as a quick reference and I wasn't disappointed. There are a real variety of simple and quick and delicious recipes.
Rose takes you through literally every step to making, cooking and storing Pierogies, making this book ideal for the beginners. There are also many tips scattered throughout the book to help you to excel, even at your first attempt. I like how Rose offers ten dough recipe, 15 savory fillings, 6 sweet fillings, 3 traditional pierogi toppings, 2 contemporary toppings etc- that way you can find whichever one is the most to your liking.

Finally I have learned about a couple of pierogi cutting and sealing tools that can save you a lot of time in preparing pierogi.

I had a friend years ago who would have us over for dinner and she sometimes served pierogi. I loved them! She made the traditional pierogi with a potato onion filling and also sauerkraut. They had butter on top, onions and sour cream. So delicious. Well I had the recipe for the dough and potato filing and after many moves lost it. I know she put sour cream or maybe cream cheese in the dough. So I got this book today and found 2 dough recipes that look like they might be her recipe. I was so happy! The great thing about this book is that you get the old traditional pierogi recipes. But there are a lot of modern fillings and toppings too. Nice, clear directions. Pierogi are not hard to make but the key is to have a good recipe for the dough. Very happy I found this book.

I thought I was alll set with Treasured Polish Recipes for Americans, but when I saw the cover of this book I knew that I could use some more inspiration for making my pierogies better - especially in time for Easter! This book explains everything from how to cut/stuff/seal to how to freeze pierogies.

Amateur effort with giant print to cover up lack of content, poor organization and bad editing. In addition, there are surprisingly few recipes for fillings, and many are weird, non-traditional recipes. I don't believe that jalapenos are a common Slavic ingredient. Several of the sweet berry filling recipes are virtually identical and could be shown as one recipe with a note that other types of berries or fruit may be substituted. There are strange appearances of cheddar cheese, which is not a traditional Polish ingredient. Not a single recipe for any of my family favorites - potato, onion and sauerkaut (no cheese); dry curd cottage cheese or pot cheese with sugar, cinnamon and raisins; or ground beef (or veal or pork), dill, onion and potato. These are common recipes, as I have had them at other meals, both at friends' houses and restaurants. Finally, with print so large, it takes several pages of excruciatingly repetitive instructions to get through one recipe, which is irritating and inconvenient. I am very disappointed.

II've been searching for cook books like this for a long time, and I have to say that I am pleased with the way this book shows the delicious recipes. The book has a great variety of delicious pierogi recipes. It includes traditional recipes that many of us enjoyed when we were growing up. But it also includes a lot of contemporary pierogi fillings and toppings. The recipes are clearly written and easy to follow. This is definitely a must-have for anyone who loves to cook.

I remember my mother and grandmother making these when I was little, at the time I was more of an eater than a helper when it came to preparing these morsels from heaven, but now I'm armed with this book. I never realized there were some many recipes; Rose includes recipes for 10 different types of dough alone.

Rose goes into all the details of what you should have for equipment to make the perfect pierogi. There are a lot of secrets in this section alone to make the cost of this book worth it.
Rose has included all of the familiar traditional recipes (yes these are the one I remember from my childhood) and then she has thrown a curve ball into the pierogi game by adding desert and sweet pierogis.

Even if you never tried a pierogi this the book that will teach you, believe me you won't be disappointed. This book is highly recommended to anyone that wants to learn all secrets and recipes of pierogis.

More About the Author

My name is Rose Wysocki and I live with husband near Boston. We both come from Polish families who immigrated to Massachusetts in the early 1900's. I grew up in a family of 6 children who were all steeped in Polish traditions by our parents and grandparents. We were raised on traditional Polish cooking. From an early age my brothers, sisters and I would help stuff and seal pierogi. We had an assembly line in the kitchen! When I got older I helped my mother make different pierogi fillings.

I passed on our traditional Polish cuisine to my 4 children. They are all excellent pierogi makers and eaters!

I really enjoy combining traditional pierogi fillings with contemporary toppings, flavored butters and sauces. I also love to combine contemporary fillings with traditional pierogi dough.

When my grandchildren get a little older I plan to introduce them to the joy of Polish cooking too.
