Same formula, still entertaining,
This review is from: A Perfect Proposal (Hardcover)
I admit it, I like this author because she's predictible. She sticks to a formula of quirky (sometimes verging on the annoying), unconventional heroines, some romance, and voila, happy ending. And it just happens that I like this light literature in between heavier, darker novels. This one doesn't disappoint. Sophie is the "artsy" type, with a heart of gold, and a lot of peole step on her (that's where the annoying comes in, she lets everybody use her as a doormat). But she meets some nice people (including a good-looking guy) and comes into some money and life is well. Aaaah, if everything in life was so easy.

I have read and enjoyed all of Katie Fforde's books and this one doesn't disapoint. Katie does stick to the same general theme with all her books but the settings are always fresh and I never fail to fall completely in love with her characters. I always find myself laughing out loud at the capers her characters get themselves into. A Perfect Proposal is a great book to curl up with on a cold winter's day or while stretching out in the sun. Thank you Katie, you never fail to deliver the goods.

Classic Katie Fforde,
By Book Lover from GA (Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Perfect Proposal (Paperback)
This is another example of Katie Fforde at her best. Sophie Apperly is the youngest child of a family of continuously broke academics. She's considered to be frivolous and an air head because she's talented with her fingers, especially when it comes to making clothing and baking food. Her family doesn't appreciate her at all until she decides that forcing another unwanted job on her is the last straw. She takes off to New York to see a friend and work. She gets more than she bargained for when she meets Matilda, an elderly lady at a gallery show. Luke, Matilda's grandson, is rather skeptical about Sophie's motives. The book follows Sophie to NYC and back. The story was nothing new, but it was still exciting to read and I enjoyed it. I found it kind of odd that Sophie was only 22 and yet had a sound head on her shoulders, while most 22 year old's I know are quite immature. The 10 year age gap between Sophie and Luke was also a little mystifying to me. But I do enjoy Katie's books. They are like delicious forbidden snacks, which you can't help but crave.

EVERYTHING Katie Fforde writes is a good read with real people -- a romantic comedy about real people done with a light hand
