Author covers basics...helpful hints...Good sensible advice. Brief, but thorough coverage of topics. Recommended. Probably good advice for any breed. Found it helpful.

Review for Perfect Puppy Training
OK, I admit it. I love most dogs. Puppies have a special place in my heart as I have delivered so many when my children were small and had dogs. So it was a joy to read this book, especially when it is so well organized and thorough.

Mia Montagliani not only knows and loves dogs but can convey very specific and easy to follow instructions for the rest of us. Statistics tell us that there are more than 78.2 million dogs owned in this country and that does not count the stray dogs. That's a lot of dogs. What if we all did a good job of caring for and training our special pets? I can imagine more happy two-legged and four-legged organisms.

The author focuses on puppy care but I had a feeling she would cover the dog's age progression and she does....beautifully. I particularly like the fact that Ms. Montagliani includes things like the "amount to feed your dog throughout every stage of life" because my dog is old now and the more understanding I have, the better I can feed and care for him.

One of the book's reviewers suggested having his children read the book before asking for a dog. That is one smart dad. The book is easy enough for a reading child to comprehend and since it includes checklists and charts as well as definite steps, the family can prepare together if they decide to add another member to the family.

Another concern I have had for some time is seeing how many people try to go viral online by putting dogs and children together and sometimes that's not a good idea. The author addresses this subject well.

In these times when climate changes are making us even more uncertain, it's nice to know how to outfit the first aid and evacuation kit for the dog, how to tell if the dog is in shock, and how to handle other canine emergencies. There is so much good information in this book.

In summary, the good care and training of your puppy/dog with the knowledgeable author's information coupled by the family's efforts point to some happy times. Buy the book. Add it to your reference file. You'll have comprehensive information at your fingertips and ten to one your vet owns it.

Unlike the comment that said this is for beginners and is not useful I have to disagree. I am currently on my 4th dog and she happens to be a troublemaker and will not listen, all my other dogs were God and obeyed but she wouldn't, thanks to this book she does. I love this book!!-

Really good resource for a first time pet owner. I just wish it had mentioned a few specifics on pugs(how to clean their nose folds, etc).

I've read a number of puppy training books. This one was very basic and didn't deal with what I would think to be common anomalies - hey, not all puppies are alike. There are much better books available.

I read this book before my family adopted a new puppy. I found it to be very thorough and it covered many aspects of taking care of a puppy. We've had our puppy for a few days now and I'm very glad to have read this book. We have implemented crate training, which is explained in the book, and so far is working out great! I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about getting a new puppy.
