Useless and inaccurate!,
This review is from: Perfect Pushup Counter (Sports)
I am in the military so I thought the perfect counter would be great to train for our 2 minute pushup drills. This product is anything but perfect. My perfect counter turns off in the middle of the 2 minutes. Also it doesn't count every repetiton. My chest will hit the perfect counter and it won't count that rep for some reason. It's easier just to count yourself or have someone else count for you.

It could have been a great device.,

Positives: ----------- 1.) Great construction. 2.) Sensitive to light touch. 3.) Does enforce proper motion. Negatives: ---------- 1.) They got the counting functionality *ALL WRONG* making the device near useless. When I stumbled upon this product browsing a sports store the other day, I was amazed at it and thought it could just be my perfect pushup buddy. Using it however immediately killed that amazement. My problem with doing pushups is that I lose count and engaging my not so interested girlfriend to count for me just amounts to her not counting loud enough, not counting at all, or knowingly giving the wrong count just to make me do more pushups than I intended. "Perfect Pushup Counter" to the rescue. Or so I though. Now if you consider how most people approach pushups or how most people refer to pushups, it is one of the following: 1.) Your personal trainer or your team coach tells you to do XYZ pushups. 2.) You tell yourself to do XYZ pushups repeated in XYZ number of sets. 3.) You tell your friend that you can do 100 pushups and he tells you Bruce Lee could do 1000. I am trying to relay to you, that what is interesting in pushups (or strength training in general) is the number of repetition ("reps") or the number of "reps" and "sets" combined. The point is, when you train pushups you commit to a number of pushups and the only thing you want to make sure, is that you REACH THAT NUMBER. Hence a natural and fair expectation of the "Perfect Pushup Counter" would be to: A.) Count reps, B.) Count sets and (keep reps in memory) C.) Be able to set a goal of X reps and perform a countdown and then give a signal as the goal is reached. "Perfect Pushup Counter" does nothing of the above (see explanation). The device DOES count pushups but it does not count downwards from a given number nor does it count up to a given goal. Instead it just counts. This might have been fine had you been able to read the count as you engage in pushups, but since the device is under your chest and the display is small, there is no way to know "where you are at" or how much is left. Instead the "Perfect Pushup Counter" uses a configurable timer and you can assess (after set completion) how many reps you did within the time-frame set. This is mostly useless. I will tell you why. Counting pushups within a specific time scope is not good from a exercise perspective as it will only amounts to poorly executed repetitions and will build less muscle compared to performing the motion in a slower and controlled fashion.

Counts pushups...,

The product does what it says it will do... it counts your pushups. I like it a lot. You don't get a pushup counted unless you get all the way down which prevents me from "cheating". It's good encouragement on form. Overall, I am really happy with it!
