Editorial Reviews

PERFECT RAT - ENDANGERED LANGUAGES GREG GINN from BLACK FLAG, with Gary Arce (TEN EAST), Bill Stinson, Mario Lalli (Fatso Jetson), and Jack Brewer (Sacharrine Trust). Intense semi-instrumental stuff with hard punk and free jazz influences. Mostly improvised jamming, Greg, Bill, Mario, Gary and Jack touch ground with Jazz Rock and mutate these forms into their own shape and sound with a nervous, manifesting energy, to give this creature an identity and name which is THE PERFECT RAT, Proving that being heavy doesn´t always mean Marshall stacks and Black Sabbath t-shirts (P.D.: we love Black Sabbath!!!). THE PERFECT RAT: improvisational Rock/Avant Garde. Listen to these guys freak out, search and explore on a different level of thought. TRACKLISTING: 01. CLOUDS 02. PAINTED CANYONS 03. THE RODENTS OPTION 04. TROPICAL DEPRESSION 05. BLUEBEAM 06. WEIGHTLESS AND BLIND 07. THE SAINT OF LOST THINGS 08. CHEWING METAL 09. SEMI-NOMADIC

1.0 out of 5 stars BLACK FLAG Fans BEWARE, December 20, 2008
This review is from: Perfect Rat - Endangered Languages Cd (Audio CD)
A lot has been made of Greg Ginn's involvement with this CD - it's even been used as a selling point - which is why I, a ready-for-war Black Flag fan for many years, stepped up to purchase this.
Bad idea.
The extent of Mr. Ginn's involvement is this: He played the bass. As a favor. Over a weekend. At a friend's house. Probably under the influence.
This thing sounds nothing like Black Flag, Gone, or even Ginn's solo work.
It's just it's own thing. And I really couldn't get into it, to tell you the truth.
Once again, no Ginn guitars, no Ginn lyrics. Just a bass line.
So unless you're a rabid Greg Ginn completeist, this isn't really worth your time.
Just my opinion.
