5.0 out of 5 stars Abductions & Reconstructions 2??, June 1, 2005
This review is from: Perfect Remixes 4 (Audio CD)
Ever since I heard the Abductions and Reconstructions album by Thievery Corporation, I wondered when they were going to get around to releasing a second one. Here it is. True, not technically on their label, but hey, it's an album full of their remixes. It starts off with Ustad Sultan Khan's "Tarana" off the Rare Elements compilation. It's slow, and kinda dark-sounding. You can tell it was made around the time they were recording The Cosmic Game, as it sounds like it would fit right in. The second track is "Le Reveur" off the Tapis Rouge: Solarium, from Cirque du Soleil. It's similar to the last track, only a little more up-tempo. The 3rd song is a real surprise. It's a remix of the Januaries' "The Girl's Insane", and wasn't ever commercially available (it was on a promo, and was available for download, but that was it). Very bouncy and oddly happy-sounding, which makes for a nice contrast with the lyrics. Great for driving to. Next is a remix of Luscious Jackson's "Nervous Breakthrough", which was only found on a double vinyl promo. Thievery don't do straight-up funk sounds much, and this track shows that they should change that. The 5th track, a remix of Nicola Conte's "Bossa Per Due" (which can be found many places), sounds like an old big-band song sped up. The 6th track is a remix of DJ Cam's "Success". This version is about 5 and a half minutes, compared to the 3-minute version on their DJ Kicks mix. It's got nice big drums, and a good melody to it. Then there's the remix of 80 Mile Beach's "There Are No Right Angles Found In Nature". This can be found on the Om Lounge compilation, and is also downloadable on Amazon.com [they call it Right Angles (remix)]. Nice, but it sounds a little generic. The next two tracks are Slide Five's "KC Doppler" and Pizzicato Five's "Porno 3003". I'm lumping them together because they are both found on the previously-mentioned Abductions and Reconstructions mix album, although KC Doppler is about 20 seconds longer here. KC Doppler is also nice in a generic way, but Porno 3003 is a great track with all sorts of drum patterns and snippets of melondy jumping in and out. The last track is Better Daze's "Heavenly Sweetness", and was previously only available on their "Remix Project" album. It's very dub-reggae influenced, and easily the slowest and sparest song on the album, which makes it a great closer. This is a must for any Thievery fan (especially since several of these mixes were close to impossible to find), and would make for an eclectic mix album for anyone else. The only minor quibble is that there was enough room for a few more remixes, but maybe they'll release another remix compilation someday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It., February 20, 2012
This review is from: Perfect Remixes 4 (Audio CD)
I got this record in a 'Chill' Box Set, I actually bought the whole 4 disc box set just for this cd lol. This is a great chill, world beat cd. Flows very well, I like the track selection and all of the Thievery elements are there in these remixes. I maybe partial cuz I am a huge Thievery fan.
