5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Book for The Perfect Thanksgiving
What a perfect book to read to the kids on Thanksgiving. This book shows that we are all the same on the inside even if we are different on the outside. This is the message we need to be sending to our children. I have many nieces and nephews, lots of friends with children, and three of my own. The kids really loved this story!

1.0 out of 5 stars I'm horrified!
As a teacher I try and pick books that students from all demographics can relate to. I chose this book, and afterwards was left to deal with a series of very emotional students who could not cope with the reality of not having a family like Abigail Archer's. 5.0 out of 5 stars Light-hearted study in contrasts, November 24, 2003
This review is from: The Perfect Thanksgiving (Hardcover)
An attentive little girl compares Thanksgiving at her own home and that of Abigail Archer, whose family "is perfect in every way":

"Their turkey is plump and golden.
Their napkins are made of lace.
Their table is lit with candles.
They all hold hands for grace."

In her house, the smoke alarm wails, sister slurps and uncle burps. Instead of homemade pie with fancy whipped-cream swirls, they have a Jell-O mold that wiggles off its plate and onto the floor.

Lighthearted paper-collage illustrations contrast the serenity of one family with the pandemonium of the other. Despite their differences, however, both families are alike in their love for one another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute as can be!, November 24, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Perfect Thanksgiving (Hardcover)
As a mom with many imperfect Thanksgivings behind me, I loved this book! The images of both the perfect and imperfect Thanksgivings were great. Kids probably won't "get" all of it, but the best children's writing (not to mention cartoons) always has a few inside jokes to keep us grownups interested. You will not find a more fun book about Thanksgiving.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lesson to learn, August 21, 2004
This review is from: The Perfect Thanksgiving (Hardcover)
What a nice message sent through colorful pictures, plenty of jokes, and the cutest of poems. The lesson to learn is how each of us are alike. While the kids think they are just reading an exciting new book, little do they know they are subtly learning as well. Thank you for writing this adorable book for our kids to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Thanksgiving, November 23, 2008
This was the perfect book for use in our classroom. The book was fun to read and was the perfect beginning to discuss family traditions. Our class wrote our own version of the Perfect Thanksgiving using our families. Great read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, November 7, 2007

I checked this book out from the library for my kids and now I am buying a copy to keep.
This book is fantastic. The message my kids got from this book is that it doesn't matter if your family isn't perfect, as long as you are together Thanksgiving is perfect. The book goes back and forth between a "perfect" family's Thanksgiving and a "not-perfect" family's Thanksgiving.
I think it is important that children understand that no one's family is perfect, not even at Thanksgiving.
In response to the teacher that hated the book, maybe it would have been appropriate to pre-read the book and to have some answers ready for possible questions. We think the book is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect book for Thanksgiving!, November 21, 2011
A Kid's Review
Review by This Kid Reviews Books! Find me on the web!

Abigail Archer's mother wears pearls and bakes homemade pies. My mother wears blue jeans and her pies are from the store. Abigail's cousins read books on velvet chairs. My cousins hop atop the furniture while hollering. Abigail's turkey is plump and golden. My turkey is burnt like toast. Who has the perfect Thanksgiving?

I really like this book! It is silly but has such a great message. It doesn't mater that your Thanksgiving is not like you see in the movies. What matters is the love a family has for each other and THAT makes a Perfect Thanksgiving! The illustrations in the books are really great too, they are bright and colorful. The story is told in a nice rhyme and this is my pick for The Perfect Thanksgiving Book!

4.0 out of 5 stars fun holiday book, November 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My kids love this book. When i ordered it I didn't know it was by the same folks that did the Scrambled States of America. My son loves the comments that the hand turkeys are making on every page. It's a good little book for my 4 year old and 18 month old

I chose this book, and afterwards was left to deal with a series of very emotional students who could not cope with the reality of not having a family like Abigail Archer's. Furthermore, a series of schoolyard brawls ensued when students from both sides of the Perfect Thanksgiving's demographic areas got in to a dispute. Ultimately, I would never suggest this volatile book for viewing by anyone under the age of 30.
