4.0 out of 5 stars complex, exciting romance thriller, September 9, 2000

I like Olga Bicos but I find you've got to chose her books carefully - some work better than others. This one is my very favourite of hers. It is quite complicated plot wise, and benefits from more than one reading, but it has a great love affair with genuine tension and complexity in it.

Cherish is a thoroughly believable heroine, who is traumatised by her involvement in a tragic airplane crash a year ago. She has family and friends (I always hate it when the heroine mysteriously has neither!) and a decent career, but a miserable private life. Alex who professed to love her, has disappeared. And Conor, who is a most delicious hero, seems to have betrayed her.

The secondary characters are also well fleshed and interesting. Conor's sister, Geena, eventually reveals that the reason she is so furious with Cherish is because she feels that Cherish never fought sufficiently for her brother. It's an interesting exploration of what love and trust and faith mean within a relationship.

Having said that, it is also a fast moving, taut thriller, with loads more science than I understood, and a good ending. You were sad to let the lovers go, and wanted to spend more time with them - always the sign of a keeper. The reason it's only 4 stars is that it is a bit plot heavy on first reading. If you are looking for some mindless fluff, this is not for you, but if you want something to get your teeth into, romantically speaking, then snap it fast!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than her last!, July 10, 1998
This review is from: Perfect Timing (Paperback)
A very picky friend told me I had to read Bicos' Wrapped in Wishes. It was one of my favorite romances of last year. Perfect Timing was just as wonderful, and very daring, given that Bicos introduces a lot of science and metaphysics, and also that she risks making the secondary male character as attractive as the hero.

Bicos is going to be a big star.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard to put down., August 22, 1998

First book by her I've read. Enjoyed it immensely. Her characters were fleshed out well but still retained an element of mystery about them. I particularly enjoyed the way she combined the supernatural element with the purely scientific. Discussed it with my engineer husband and he was quite impressed with my "newfound knowledge" about aerospace engineering! The main male character was actually not as interesting as the secondary male lead and Allison was a confusing character. Other than that it was a great read and I've already bought 2 earlier novels of hers to read as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars brilliant storytelling... an author to watch, September 5, 2000

This review is from: Perfect Timing (Paperback)
This was the first novel I have read by this author and once I began I was unable to put it down. The story is amazingly well crafted and not the usual run of the mill romance/thriller. The author has obviously paid a great deal of attention to researching aeronatical engineering which pays off in a completely plausible storyline. She has a great syle of writing and I am looking forward to reading more of her work. The only criticism I had was that I found the secondary hero to be much more appealing than the main hero who seemed a bit bland in comparison. Don't let this put you off though as he is still to die for.I can only hope that Ms Bicos will be writing Alec's story ASAP as he badly needs a good woman to reform him...but not too much!
