Book Description

September 15, 2004
After her long-running sitcom is cancelled, actress Marley Madison finds herself a typecast has-been at the ripe old age of twenty-seven. Her career needs a jump-start, fast and an incognito appearance on the hit reality game show Dream Date will prove her acting ability to the world. Before long, she finds herself wanting to prove something entirely different to her fellow contestant, Jake Jarvis. There s something decidedly un-Hollywood about Jake. The better Marley gets to know him, the harder it is to remember her motivation.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

*Starred Review* All he wants is a normal life for himself and his four-year-old son, but sportscaster Jake Jarvis' producers have other ideas. Without Jake's knowledge, they launch a huge market campaign featuring him as a sex symbol, plastering his photograph on everything from billboards to city buses. Despite his objections, Jake's carefully guarded anonymity is shot to pieces. On the other hand, actress Marley Madison, known for her role as a Southern belle on a popular, long-running television program, likes being a celebrity. But the longevity of the show, while earning her a legion of fans, has caused her to be terminally typecast, creating a problem when the program's run is over. What better way to break out of her mold than to appear incognito on a reality dating program? Jake's producers have forced him onto the show, too, and TV-land reality becomes truth as he and "Carly," Marley's alter ego, actually fall for each other. The problem is, even though they've become an item, Marley hasn't told Jake her true identity. Plumley's humor sparkles in this thoroughly engaging tale about what's real and what isn't. 4.0 out of 5 stars An amusing summer read -- Highly recommended, August 5, 2003
This review is from: Perfect Together (Paperback)
When his news station attempts to boost ratings by promoting him as super stud, sportscaster Jake Jarvis does not appreciate having his picture plastered across buses and billboards. Worse, now the news station insists that this single father Jake agree to participate as contestant on the Dream Date TV show. Jake believes that he and four-year-old Noah do not need a woman intruding in their games and clothing choices, and agrees only to assure food the table.

Actress Marley Madison made herself famous for over two decades as a sultry, sassy southern belle. Now twenty-seven, Marley wants meatier roles than stilettos and a southern twang. Her agent suggests that she prove her acting ability by becoming a contestant on Dream Date. By transforming her Hollywood image into the girl next door, Marley hopes prove her talent on national television. When she meets Jake over coffee, however, their chemistry inspires the show's producer to pair them as a team with nothing in common and little chance of winning. But publicity becomes secondary when love adds its own unexpected chemistry.

Author Lisa Plumley pens a delightful contemporary comedy in PERFECT TOGETHER. Plumley's prose sparkles with levity and wit as she adds a fresh twist to the classic prince and pauper switch. Marley's adoption of her sister's clothing, apartment and lifestyle provides amusing conundrums as she attempts to conceal her life as a starlet. Young Noah provides plenty of his own wonderful moments as Jake indulges outrageous clothing choices and lots of love. Readers will find themselves eagerly anticipating the sequel that promises Marley's sister's story as she samples glamour and privilege. The perfect amusing read for summer reading, PERFECT TOGETHER comes very highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars One "dating show" couple I would have liked to see on TV, October 14, 2003
By
janlouise (Ruston, LA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perfect Together (Paperback)
Sports broadcaster, Jake Jarvis is gorgeous, single and a dad. He tries to discourage women from looking his way because he "has eyes" only for his 4 year old little boy, Noah, and is happy spending all his spare time with him. But it gets hard to ignore the looks and interest of women when his face or/and body starts showing up on billboards and bus signs as the newest sex symbol. This is done to promote the TV sports channel he is on, his boss applies for Jake to be a contestant on a TV reality dating show. Jake is not happy now. It is in the lobby of the dating show that Jake meets "the-girl-next-door want to look like" Carley Madison at the coffee machine. Carley is actually actress Marley Madison who is trying to further her career by proving that she can be a serious actress. Her agent suggested that she change her identity and become a contestant on the dating show to prove her talent on national tv. When producers witness the chemistry between Jake and Carley, they decide to pair them up as a couple. Now the fun begins. Having nothing in common but wanting to be successful (for different reasons), Jake and Carley try to make a go of it. They have to spend so much time together on dates and getting along takes work. But success soon becomes secondary when their hearts get involved.

The story is a lot of fun. There are many tender moments between Jake and Noah that are soooo sweet. Carley who is soooo worldly, has never considered settling down and having a family is faced with realizing this is something she wants. Jake is faced with realizing the emptiness in his and Noah's lives. Silly at times but a great read! A lot of fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars ~ My First Lisa Plumley Book ~, November 14, 2003
By
Lisa (San Bernardino, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perfect Together (Paperback)
This book was sent to me by Lisa Plumley herself, it was in my pile of books waiting to be read, I only wish I would have read it soon a very enjoyable read. Marely is an actress but no one is taking her seriously so they have her do this reality game show called Dream Date, they have her as a different person name Carly, at the ending of the last show she will reveal that she is really Marely the actress, she believes when that happens she will get acting jobs. She is paired up with Jake he is a sports caster and if he goes through with this then he can get a high positions. They have gone out on dates and they start to care for one another, Carly starts to learn things about herself that she wouldn't have learned when she was Marley. Jake son Noah is so adorable, he makes you want to give him a big huge. Jack starts to fall in love with Carly, if and when he finds out the whole truth about her how will he react? You just have to read this book, and very enjoyable read :) Thank you Lisa, for introducing us to Marley, Jake and Noah, I look forward on hearing Meredith's story.

Happy Reading Lisa
