Book Description

WARNING! This book contains screwball comedy, quirky characters, and farcical situations...

Helen Grey is finally getting everything she wants. She's about to have the perfect dream wedding and begin an exciting new life abroad on the sunny Mediterranean island of Cyprus. But living the dream isn't all it's cracked up to be.

After a mix-up at the airport, Helen finds herself drawn into the midst of an elaborate plot to steal an ancient statue and assassinate a local businessman. And as if that wasn't bad enough, her wedding dress is AWOL, the statue seems to be cursed, and Helen is wanted by the police.

With the big day rapidly approaching, a roller-coaster of mishaps, misunderstandings, and disasters threatens to turn the newlyweds into nearlyweds.

Can Helen prevent an assassination, save the statue, and have the perfect wedding? Or will the day to remember turn into one she'd rather forget?

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and True Commentary on Life! January 31, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
My Perfect Weeding by Sibel Hodge jumps right into the story from the first page. Active words keeps the reader turning the pages. Told in first person, from the beginning, I wanted to know more about this "Karem" and how she felt about him.

Dialogue is refreshing and very real. The way Hodge weaves dialogue into the story feels very natural, not forced like with some authors. She even has a few comedic scenes and lines to keep the reader engaged. I laughed out loud on some occasions. "Mr. Potato Head," need I say more?

In this laugh-out loud, real to the bone, commentary on what being married is like, I felt like I got to the know the two main characters very well and learn a thing or two about relationships.

With an atmosphere in Nicosia, there is plenty to draw from to keep the reader visually stimulated, and united with interesting dialogue, this novel was fun and hard to put down.

We often think life will be perfect if only....but his story is a real-life kick in the butt, revealing that life is never perfect. A bumpy ride, full of ups and downs, this story was very enjoyable.

I recommend this to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-Stop Fun March 25, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved My Perfect Wedding. Main character Helen Grey has moved to Cypress with her fiancé, Kalem. The fun starts right away when the two are detained at the airport because Helen has played a joke on Kalem. Once things get sorted out, they are on their way to their wedding and the adventure of a lifetime. Helen uncovers an assassination plot that includes the theft of a priceless bust of Cleopatra. Complications threaten to not only cost Helen her perfect wedding, but land her in jail.

Helen is funny and witty and I laughed out loud at some of her one-liners. This a screwball comedy of a book, so the main plot with the criminals and the way Helen tries to prevent the crime, while implausible, don't detract at all from the story. They are part of the fun. Think Lucy and Ethel or Laverne and Shirley over the top madness. One of my favorite scenes from My Perfect Wedding occurs when Helen pretends to be a hooker to stop the bad guy. Very funny.

Ms. Hodge has a very readable style and a knack for good storytelling. She also did a great job describing the setting. By the end of the book she had me ready to book a vacation to Cypress.

Not as good as the first book in the series. A little far fetched and scattered. Wish it was more about Helen and kalem. Just ok for me
